CBI Review – DRIVE #4
Artist: Antonio Fuso
Publisher: IDW Publishing
Make sure you keep your hands on ten and two for the conclusion of this mini-series from IDW. The dust has settled but the action is far from over as Nino needs to pay for what he’s done. With all hell breaking loose The Driver (whose name is never revealed throughout the entire story) goes and pays an old debt with the money and then heads straight to settle the score with Nino which he does so rather coldly right at his front door and here’s where it gets a bit confusing. Bernie Rose who at the beginning of this issue was a business partner of Nino’s but by the end of the issue The Driver tells Bernie the deed is done. Then The Driver kills Bernie after a double double-cross and Drives off into the sunset soaked in blood.
The artwork is very dark and gritty which is highly complementary to the tone of this tale which itself is dark and gritty. Except for the very end the writing kept me on my toes, no pun intended when I say this tale is a wild ride. The details on the cars are amazing and you can tell the team took great lengths to make sure the driving action sequences were as good as its movie counterpart. A neat bonus are the Tips from a driver that appear at the end of each book. How many comics give tips on how to do exactly what the title character is great at?!?!? This book is definitely worth the trip, just don’t try any of it at home.
