Brother Ali – All The Beauty In This Life – Music Review

Produced by Ant
Brother Ali might not be a household name and maybe he never will be, but if you listen to underground American Hip-Hop, Ali is on the top of the list. That delivery and those words speak louder than anything that the radio is spewing out these days and he’s not afraid to tell you. Brother Ali’s career has been filled with loud sound of pure hip-hop at it’s best because he has some shit to talk about and you have to hear it
All The Beauty In This Life is a record about life, mistakes, faith, and truth. Ali shows an honesty and realness that isn’t heard much in hip-hop these days. Track by track, Brother Ali and producer Ant (Atmosphere) give us an old school feel where the beats evoke the rawness of underground hip hop all the while the content of the words connect to your heart stings and tear them to the ground. Bar after bar Ali articulates his life and thoughts unlike any other artist I’ve ever heard and is showing us his greatness on his sixth studio album.
When “Dear Black Son” hits you know that this album isn’t gonna pull any punches and Ali is gonna bleed every word from here on out. The beats are traditional and the delivery is unconventional so patience will be required for people who are used to a more “radio friendly” kind of hip-hop. An appreciation for many forms of music is a must as the music can be just as important has the message.
The one potential drawback here is that the album is dense and better suited by listening to it as a whole. It is filled to the brim with words and music. Not a moment is wasted here and the message is glaring through every single track. Ali makes it clear that he wants us to see his life though the prism of his eyes and let us see his faith and his kids and his struggle the way he does. He gives us his heart and through every drum break and every beat drop this is who he is. Songs about being bullied for being Albino to raising a black son, he gives us an unfiltered snap shot at his world and how beautiful and also dark it can be.
There is more than just an album here, there is also a man’s soul and you can hear that dedication to the art form in every flow. Honesty is pouring from his lips on to the mic and he always seem to be giving 110% and he believes you deserve it. All The Beauty In This Life is a superb album that has character and depth. It’s fun and positive at time and also quite sad and real as well. Ali is one of my all time favorites and I knew this album was going to be good but I’ll be damned if he hasn’t flat out, out did himself in almost every conceivable way.
