Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo: Day One
The weather is 6 degrees and there is a crisp clean spring wind as well as a distinct air of anticipation as 120,000 people line up along the sidewalks and street curbs of Stephen Avenue Mall. An outdoor street of shops and restaurants in the Calgary area running 6-8 city blocks and a major hub for events and outdoor festivities. It’s not a major concert or the stampede parade everyone is here to see today however. It’s the Parade of Wonders. The cosplay and celebrity studded celebratory opening for the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo.
Starting in 2005 with an attendance of 3000 people, The Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo is currently the number 12th largest convention in the world and the second largest in Canada dwarfed only by the Toronto Fan Expo. The Expo had its largest gathering of 102,000 people in 2015 with this year’s attendees topping in at 95,000 people and 2,500 cosplayers in the parade.
