Geek Picks for October 4th, 2017!
New Comics Wednesday is upon us again, and some of us here at Outright Geekery are running down the top pick on our comic stacks for this week. It’s Geek Picks for October 4th, 2017! What are you looking forward to reading this week?
David: Batman: The Dawnbreaker #1
Oh snap, I’m picking a DC title for my Pick this week! Typically I steer clear of comic book mega-events, but the Metal event is surprisingly good. Current Green Lanterns scribe, Sam Humphries, is on this book so I’m expecting a pretty solid GL story of some sorts. We know this Batman of Negative Earth ?? takes a power ring but I want to see how it happens! Can’t wait for Wednesday!
Publisher: DC Comics

As the events of DARK NIGHTS: METAL rock the DC Universe, the creatures of the Dark Multiverse stand ready to invade our world! How can even the World’s Greatest Heroes stop a horde of deadly beings that appear to be powerful, nightmare versions of familiar figures? Find out in these special tie-in issues!

Joshua: THOR BY WALTER SIMONSON OMNIBUS HC NEW PTG
For me, it is definitely the Thor by Walter Simonson omnibus reprint. It’s great how we can get the full treatment of the best run ever sometimes but this is one that definitely lives up to that moniker and is probably one of the best runs ever. Walter did writing and art on this book for a few years, putting it back into mythology, while not neglecting the Marvel U either. In doing so, he created a lot to go with Thor, like Beta Ray Bill, Malekith, Skurge, and did such over-the-top issues that should not work but did so well, like the issue where Thor turned into a frog. Seriously, this is great stuff worth reading.

Considered by many to be the greatest run on THOR ever, Walter Simonson’s classic tales of the God of Thunder are collected here – completely remastered from the original artwork and stunningly recolored by Steve Oliff! And there are too many timeless tales to count: the Casket of Ancient Winters! The death of Odin! The origins of Asgard! The sacrifice of the Executioner! Thor as a frog! The Mutant Massacre! The curse of Hela! The debut of Thor’s body armor! Guest-starring Beta Ray Bill, Nick Fury and the Avengers! Featuring the threats of Fafnir the dragon, Loki, Lorelei, Malekith the Dark Elf, Surtur, Hela, the Titanium Man, Kurse, Zaniac, the Marauders, the Absorbing Man, Fin Fang Foom, the Destroyer and the Midgard Serpent! Plus: Balder the Brave battles alone!
Collecting THOR (1966) #337-355, #357-369 and #371-382; and BALDER THE BRAVE #1-4.

Tony: Harley & Ivy meet Betty & Veronica #1
Everybody’s all excited about the other Harley Quinn starring mini that drops this week Batman: White Knight. But I am thrilled for this DC/Archie crossover by Paul Dini and Marc Andreyko. It’s a book that has Harley and Ivy stealing Archie Andrews heart, and probably his wallet, and jalopy, and guitar with amp. I must have the Adam Hughes variant cover!
Publisher: DC Comics

Free college tuition for all Riverdale residents?! That’s the plan-after the town drains the wetlands that lie between it and Gotham City and then builds a new campus. The only snag? A certain botany-obsessed super-villain. When Poison Ivy enlists her bestie, Harley, to kidnap both Veronica Lodge, daughter of Riverdale’s most important citizen, and her friend Betty, she’s counting on some assistance-and the mayhem that ensues will probably work as well!
DC Comics and Archie are proud to present the adventure of a lifetime for all these best pals. Their hijinks are brought to you by the real-life team-up of Paul Dini (HARLEY QUINN) and Marc Andreyko (WONDER WOMAN ’77), with art by Laura Braga (DC BOMBSHELLS)!

Gaumer: Batman #32
I love a marriage proposal. The memorable destination, getting down on one knee, the ring, that surprised smile, the tears, telling the story about a mass murder war between two psychopaths. You know, that old chestnut. The War of Jokes and Riddles has been a compelling story, but it’s all been told around one question. Will she say yes? Well, I already know, but I’m still excited to see it for myself.
“THE WAR OF JOKES AND RIDDLES” finale! This is the finale everyone will be talking about for years to come! In BATMAN #24, we gave you the question; in BATMAN #32, you get the answer. As the Riddler and The Joker desperately fight for supremacy in Gotham City, Batman reveals how far he had to go to end the war. Now, knowing Batman’s greatest sin, Catwoman must make her decision: Will she marry Batman?
