Grrl Scouts Magic Socks #6 Review
There are some comics that can be described as a thrill ride but the Grrl Scouts cut the brake lines completely and did so while laughing hysterically. Image comics continues to pull excellence right outta left field yet again with the super fun conclusion of the third story arc Magic Socks. Things definitely went up a notch this time around, Magic Socks gets the full color treatment thus adding fuel to an already roaring fire. Justin Stewart is a great addition. With Gwen and Rita getting captured by the deliciously evil Josie it’s up to Daphne to save them. Fortunately she realizes how she was acting……….just in time to sell her soul to Mictlantecuhtu (say that five times fast) for the key that unlocks the Magic Socks. This one is a doozie to say the least.
What I love about the Girl Scouts is that it’s a visual smorgasbord. There are so many things that go on stylistically here yet it’s very easy for the reader to keep up with everything even though the pacing is at 100 miles an hour. The lions share of the credit has to go to series creator and artist Jim Mahfood. On one hand you have moments that ooze seduction and sex appeal yet on other moments where there is white knuckle pedal to the metal action all while providing witty humor and dialogue. I’ll just put it plainly……Jim Mahfood you rock sir! Keep up the good work!!
Once again image puts creativity and unique ideas to the forefront and pin another tail on the donkey with the Grrl Scouts. Mahfood drops the mic on this one and closes this arc out like a true magician should, leaving the audience wanting more. Let’s hope you don’t stay gone for too long.
