Outright Geekery Interviews Constant Hustle Comics Creator Lawrence King
Indie comics are on the rise all over social media. One brand that keeps popping up in my inner circle is Constant Hustle Comics. I decided to reach out to let Outright Geekery readers know why you should always keep your eye on smaller books. You may just be reading the next Marvel or DC.
LK: Hi. My name is Lawrence King and I’m the proud creator of Constant Hustle Comics.
OG: How did the Constant Hustle brand and team come about?
LK: We’re a group of passionate people with different talents who love to tell good stories. We also recognize that there’s a void in comics and graphic novels when it comes to diversity and inclusion. We’re here to help fill that gap by bringing some dynamic characters and stories to the table. Make room and get ready to eat.
OG: What has the progress been like?
LK: It’s been a slow grind. It’s taken a lot of time to find the right artists who believe in my vision and mission for Constant Hustle. I believe slow and steady wins the race so I’m taking the work in phases, one character and one story at a time. There’s a lot of noise out there and we’re still finding our way, shaping our voice, understanding the marketplace and the best ways to connect with audiences. Over this next year our team will work on a content marketing strategy that will help us build out our brand.
OG: What does your brand hope to convey to the audience?
LK: Our passion for comics and that we have some bad ass characters with stories they’ll want to read. I want people to connect to the realness of our diverse characters and the universal messages of our stories. Regardless of your race, ethnicity, religion, class or gender it’s my goal to have Constant Hustle produce comics that push the limits of heroes, villains, and our audiences.
OG: What can readers expect from Constant Hustle Comics?
LK: Strong characters you can relate and connect with. Raw and edgy stories with a universal appeal.
OG: I’m sure readers are wondering how they can get their hands on your work. What can you tell them?
LK: We have mini issues that we will be slowly making available for download off of our website. Also our first comic line will have the first edition for public consumption by this summer. Also, we have a character named Avery The Astonishing in The Powerverse that will be out by late summer also. Also we have one shot runs with Koncrete Komics coming out this fall as well.
OG: Last but certainly not least, how is Constant Hustle comics different from the thousand indie brands out there?
LK: Every writer and artist has a story. Like other brands we trying to tell ours. We’re different from the thousand of other indie brands in our mission as a team of creative artists and purpose to bring a diverse and inclusive narrative to comics. Our passion drives the stories we’re writing and the heroes who bring them to life. We’re striving to develop unique and and authentic characters with relevant and dynamic stories that push people’s buttons, encourages them to think and in their own lives bring truth to power.
OG: Well, thank you for your time and cooperation. Any last messages for the masses?
LK: The hustle never ends so we, “Each one, teach one until all are taught.” (African proverb)
