Taste of Sea and Blood
When a storm capsizes Belladonna’s ship leaving everyone to swim for their lives, she has no fear. When a Bone Queen declares to everyone their souls are to be devoured to the sea, Belladonna doesn’t bat an eye and press on. But when she becomes stranded on an island with a handful of her crew in bad shape, the severity of the situation hits her hard. Now, in search of food, fresh water, and shelter, her survival instincts takes precedence. Meanwhile, someone else is overcoming her shipwreck and meeting the inhabitants of Megistos. But unlike Belladonna’s murderous encounter with their goddesses, she’s the only chance to bring back their beloved witches back to life. It’s another salty adventure for Belladonna and her shield maidens as they search for any survivors, forage supplies and help from anyone. Belladonna is a Viking woman who is tough, built like an Amazon, vicious, lustful and without forgetting, a woman who knows what she wants. But due to her ordeals, she’s worse for wear. Now left to fend for herself and what’s left of her maidens on an uncharted island, they are not prepared for what awaits. Shand gives a gripping look at Belladonna’s vulnerability as she desperately works to end this crisis. For the first time, Belladonna is becoming unhinged and wonders if she’s brought this curse upon them. Everyone has their limitations and, from the looks of it, this might be Belladonna’s freak-out moment. Nevertheless, there’s more to this island as the maidens manage to discover a small village. The better friend than foe as their spirits are at an all-time low and could use some help.
Artwork / Coloring and Dialogue
The artwork of Nahuel Lopez, Greg Laroque, and Billy Patton is like watching a live action film with occasional moments of bloodbath gore and dismemberments. One would never expect that a comic book offering this much carnage would still have enough punch to capture one’s attention from various tantalizing sketches of women. Did I mention, this is for mature audiences only? As the story closes into a climactic cliffhanger, the panels only show a glimpse of what awaits Belladonna and her maidens on the other side. Great body artwork drawings as it depicted Belladonna in various situations.
In conclusion, Belladonna is a woman like no other and so is the artwork. Nahuel, Greg, and Billy really show how imaginative these guys are. I often wonder how they manage to keep within the confines of the comic book without making Belladonna story into a graphic novel. I would love to be a fly on the wall during their brainstorming session. In any case, Belladonna and her shieldmaidens are dwindling down in numbers, rapidly. Weak and exhausted, she is no match against what awaits her behinds these uninviting doors. Will this be the last of legendary Belladonna escapades or will she be someone’s dinner? The next issue of Belladonna Fire and Fury issue # 6 comes out on May 30th.
