Review – Jem and the Holograms Valentines Day Special
Jem and the Holograms Valentines Day Special

Kimber is up to some antics in this Valentines Special. Kimber is in love, which we already know, but what you didn’t know was how far she’d go for love. That young love has led her to a fortune teller who gives her some kind of potion to make an obstacle open up. However, it does a whole lot more.
In a meeting with The Misfits and the Holograms. There Kimber pours the potion into a glass pitcher, and the water is distributed to all but Jerrica and a very present Synergy in the form of Jem. The potion strikes mad love into the hearts of our stars, and chaos ensues. Its up to Rio and Jerrica to keep all band members under control until it wears off. That doesn’t go too well, of course.
I like where Kelly Thompson was going with this. You can’t have Valentine’s Day without a love potion. However, I felt that some of it went a bit strange. Kimber kept going from being under the influence to being fine and back again. Also, we didn’t get to see much of Pizzazz even though she was the obstacle the potion was meant for.
Jen Bartel’s art is simple for the most part. Its also a very cute style. It would have been nice if the characters didn’t look like Mii characters and emojis 50% of the time. In some places it added charm and humor, but it kept going and didn’t sit right with me. I was glad to see Synergy more, even if she wasn’t in her normal form. Overall, there were some great spots that caught my eye. That variant covers are beautiful, and the regular cover was pretty interesting to look at.
