Hello everyone, Brian A, Madrid with this week recap of Rebirth’s Detective Comic book series #934 thru #937. For those Batman fans out there, this storyline is simply intriguing as Batman and his family of vigilantes are pitted against a new enemy against Gotham City. Compliments to James T Tynion IV and ink and non variant cover page by Eber Ferreira and Eddy Barrow. Both the writing and ink really makes the story POP! With the help of Batwoman, known as Katherine Kane, who’s happen to be Bruce Wayne’s cousin, will train Red Robin, the mysterious martial artist Cassandra Cain known as Spoiler and for the first time, Clayface joins the Batman Family. While the advance training begins to take a toll on the team, a group called the Colony prepare to make their presence known and capture Batman.
In chapter, series #934, Batman rendezvous with Batwoman after finding Azrael beaten to an inch of his life at Gotham’s cathedral. Azrael, a religious crusader from order of St. Dumas, is sworn to protect and defend against the order, trembles at the sight of Batman. Batman finds evidence that they are being watched with the use of sophisticated spy drones. With Katherine’s expert military tactics and know how, is assigned command to train members of the Batman family at Batman’s request. Reluctant to accept with the change of command, Red Robin, know to all as Tim Drake, lowers his guard to join this unorthodox team of misfits. Short of one player, Batman and Batwoman travel to Gotham’s theater district where they find, Clayface, formerly known as actor, Basil Karlo, watching his former human life on the movie screen. With Batwoman(known as Kate Kane), Spoiler(known as Stephanie Brown), Red Robin(known as Tim Drake), Cassandra Cain(known later Orphan) and Clayface forged together begin the relentless and exhaustive war-like training that leaves the team’s motivation in question.
In chapter two, series #935, NightWing joins the training as the team’s strength and tactics are pitted against the Bat-computer’s high-tech training exercises. With the help of Clayface’s morphing abilities, replicate three hours of endless onslaught of enemies against an already exhausted team. Frustrated with the team’s performance, Batwoman leaves the team to join Colonel Kane, her father, as he prepares himself for an evening with Joint Chiefs of Staff. Concerned over her decision to fight alongside Batman, Col. Kane points out that war is fought by men and not a single individual in a mask. Meanwhile, Batman drives through the streets of Gotham, he’s suddenly ambushed. With the Batmobile inoperative and fifty trained Colony soldiers surrounding Batman, can the Caped Crusader fight his way out of this?
In chapter three, series #936, A silent alarm alerts the team to assemble back in Belfry tower. Red Robin plays back video from surveillance cameras is shocked to see Batman being taken down by a group of men dressed in black-ops military-style body suits. The Colony overwhelms the Dark Knight and falls unconscious and held in restraints. Batwoman and the rest of the team are silenced as their mentor go down. Filled with emotions, Col. Kane casually walks to meet everyone in the Belfry. Batwoman hopes with her dad’s military influence can find out who’s behind all this. Unfortunately, the trap has sprung as Col. Kane shuts down all of the Belfry’s defense systems and allow the Colony to surround the team. Now inside the complex. Col. Kane explains how a small army of highly Batman-like soldiers can accomplish anything including defending this country from its enemies. Why have just one Batman for one city when you can have an army of them doing some real good in this world.
In chapter three, series #937, The Colony soldiers take inventory of Batman’s utility belt as they are amazed what they find. With hands tied over his head, Batman manages to escape by throwing tooth-cap filled with gas. He investigates to what looks like an underground base filled with many of his signature forms of transportation. He goes to work, search information through a terminal when someone enters the room Batman finds out the Colony for years have reverse engineering all of his gadgets and created algorithms to train the Colony soldiers in Batman-style combat. Ulysses Hadrian Armstrong, a young genius recruited by the Colony, explains how an army of American Batman’s can infiltrate any terrorist organization in the world and take down their entire network in just weeks. Will Batman realize his dream of protecting innocent lives can be achieved globally and surrender? Or will he stop them from creating an unstoppable army bent on accomplishing their own self-interests.
