Elektra #5 – It’s Time To Level Up!
Writer: Matt Owens

Color: Antonio Fabela
Cover: Elizabeth Torque
Elektra #5 closes out this story arc with a boss battle to shake up all of Murderworld. Arcade may have Elektra against the wall, so maybe it’s time for an upgrade.
This is just another Marvel book that I have been enjoying. Matt Owens is seriously making an Elektra fan out of me. Plus, who doesn’t love ninja assassins? This story is all her own and I have been so grateful for that. Don’t let Daredevil on the front of this awesome cover fool you. Elektra finishes this arc strong with the help of a new friend. Sorry, DD, we’ll be seeing you soon. What I didn’t expect out of this story was for Elektra to keep such a solemn attitude. I honestly don’t know if that’s a big part of her character or Matt Owens’ doing. I can certainly appreciate it. Despite solemnity, Elektra is still full of life.
The art has been the second best thing about this book. Juan Cabal seems like he’s more in favor of clean work. There’s not a lot of stuff to distract your eye from the character in this issue. However, he doesn’t just give us no backgrounds. If you’ve been reading the previous issues, you can see Cabal can go back and forth. I’m sure Cabal knows what he’s doing, and I hope he sticks around on the book. Also, who would I be if I didn’t give props to Elizabeth Torque on this issue’s cover. I would love for her to do the entire book, but lets be reasonable.
Can we talk about that upgrade that I mentioned before? I purposely left it off in the preview images, but oh my gosh. I had to clutch my imaginary pearls upon seeing it. Boy, is Elektra full of surprises. I’ll be on the lookout for more.
If you have never read an Elektra book like me, then I’m sure you’ll like this. Its a great starting point for blossoming Elektra fans. At the end of the book, they show you a group of characters we are sure to see on Elektra’s journey.
