All New Wolverine #23
Writer: Tom Taylor
Art: Leonard Kirk
Cover: Leinil Francis Yu and David Curiel
I feel like I have been waiting on this issue forever, and I am so glad it’s here. Wolverine and the Guardians of the Galaxy head out in search of their missing team members. This rescue is no walk in the park either. Today’s mission: enter the lair of the Brood.
This team up has been pretty cool. Much like other team ups, and I can see this lasting a while. Totally fine by me. All of these characters are working so well together. The Guardians and Wolverine are able to get things done and it’s been great so far. However, I’d like to see Laura go a little longer without the team ups. Of course, I don’t mean get rid of Gabby and Jonathan. Instead, let her small trio stand on it’s own a bit more. Whatever Tom and his crew chooses, I’m gonna read it anyway.
The artists on All New Wolverine have changed plenty of times. However, they have all been goo on the book. Leonard Kirk is no different. Leonard’s work has lots of dark ink spots and speed lines. Some of it can look scratchy. Kirk does great work. One of the downsides is some of the faces can come off as distorted. Despite this, Kirk has done well with the book. I’m hoping he stays on for the rest of the arc or a few more books.
I’ve said before that the stakes have increased, but they keep going up. Gabby is in more trouble than we thought. She has become a threat to herself and the team come to rescue her. Oh my, the internal conflicts we are in store for. If I go on any more, then I’m going to start rambling if I haven’t already.
You don’t know how happy I am that Taylor and his team have stayed away from Secret Empire in this book. It would have disrupted the great flow. My one request for Marvel is that they keep such a great series running. If I haven’t recommended this book yet, well I recommend it now. It’s only gonna get better.
