Geek Picks for September 6th, 2017!
New Comics Wednesday is upon us again, and some of us here at Outright Geekery are running down the top pick on our comic stacks for this week. It’s Geek Picks for September 6th, 2017! What are you looking forward to reading this week?
Aaron: Usagi Yojimbo #161
Hands down, Usagi Yojimbo. The single most consistently amazing series I’ve been reading for my entire comics reading career (20+ years). Great story, amazing art, and I haven’t even read the issue yet!
Publisher: Dark Horse Comics
(W) Stan Sakai (A/CA) Stan Sakai
The mischievous Kitsune and her young apprentice Kiyoko find themselves unexpectedly caught in the middle of a murder mystery. Luckily for them, Usagi and Inspector Ishida are leading the investigation. Can Usagi discover the culprit and clear the names of his sly friends, or has Kitsune finally exhausted her luck?
o Legendary comics creator Stan Sakai’s original ongoing masterpiece!
o Part one of two-a great mystery begins for new fans!

David: 4 Kids Walk into a Bank #5
Well… this is a surprise. After the last issue, which came out several months ago,the series was not suppose to continue. I know I harp on Black Mask about its publishing schedule and that readers will see second, third and even fourth printings of previous issues before the next issue of any one of their series hits the shelves. That being said, Black Mask does publish some pretty worthwhile comics and 4KWB is one of them.

Gaumer: DASTARDLY AND MUTTLEY #1
DC Comics and Hanna-Barbera teaming up for some comic books may be THE most successful and outright fun thing to happen to comics in years. Yes, there have been some misses, but the hits are such big hits that those successes far outweigh the failures. This week we have another DC/HB series that still could miss, but everything from the premise to the creative team to the source material points to Dastardly and Muttley #1 being a full-blown hit. I can’t wait to find out.
Publisher: DC Comics
(W) Garth Ennis (A/CA) Mauricet
It’s a red-letter day for the good folk of Unliklistan as they start to power up their first atomic reactor. But after pushing the wrong button, the ultra-rare radioactive element, unstabilium, has been released into the atmosphere! Now it’s up to pilot Lt. Col. Richard “Dick” Atcherly and his navigator Captain Dudley “Mutt” Muller to save the day. Will they safely complete their mission? Or are things about to get a little…wacky?

Joshua: Punisher By Garth Ennis Omnibus
While being a reprint, it’s still the beginning of the best work ever done with the character by the one creator who understood that Frank Castle is more than just a gun, but a man who stops at absolutely nothing to punish the wicked. Welcome Back Frank starts this book and it gets you right back to where the Punisher needs to be. It’s a run that deserves to be mentioned when talking of the great runs in comics. It’s that good.
Publisher: Marvel Comics
(W) Garth Ennis, Various (A) Various (CA) Tim Bradstreet
The bodies of drug dealers, murderers and the scum of the Earth litter the streets – the Punisher is back, and more brutal than ever, courtesy of writer Garth Ennis! The critically acclaimed creator that brought you Preacher restores one of the most popular characters in the Marvel Universe to his former glory and ultraviolent roots. Stripped of sidekicks, spiritual directives and other excess baggage, the vengeance-crazed vigilante hits the mean streets of New York City with a renewed sense of purpose! Lawbreakers beware: Frank Castle is locked, loaded and waiting for you to slip up! Collecting PUNISHER (2000) #1-12, PUNISHER (2001) #1-7 and #13-37, PUNISHER KILLS THE MARVEL UNIVERSE, and material from MARVEL KNIGHTS DOUBLE SHOT #1.
