Hugh Jackman’s terms are closer to coming to fruition than ever before!
And what does this mean for the current Marvel Cinematic Universe? As most of us geeks know, Fox is close to closing a deal with Disney that would entail them purchasing the rights to some of Fox’s television and film franchises. One of those franchises is the X-Men.
What does this mean?
Well, one this is for certain. We get to see Marvels Furry ferocious furball in the MCU. That’s right. I’m talking about Wolverine.
But who would be playing him. Now That Is a good question!
Of course, the first person that comes to mind would be Hugh Jackman. In an interview he gave to Screen Rant, it was said, although I have a feeling that it was tongue in cheek, that there would be a very specific set of circumstances for him to return. As quoted “If that was on the table when I made my decision, it certainly would have made me pause. That’s for sure. Because I always love the idea of him within that dynamic, with the Hulk obviously, with Iron Man but there’s a lot of smarter people with MBA who can’t figure that out [laughter]. You never know.”
Honestly, if he isn’t at the top of the list, I’d personnel would be very disappointed. He was our Wolverine for 16 waiting on Fox to make this deal. To not consider him first would, in my mind, be a very disrespectful service to him as an actor.
But, change is, if anything, always inevitable. There is always a chance that a new furball would be filling the Canucks leotard in a new movie.
In that bleak outcome, who would be best suited for this momentous undertaking?
Well, I decided to make a short list, as to not bore you with a long list, of possible candidates that would make a great Wolverine. Now this list is going to include young, older, short, tall actors, so you might just want to get over it.
That’s right. First pick right off the bat, Jake Gyllenhaal. He’s one of the great actors of our generation (excusing Bubble Boy, of course). He has the acting chops to pull off the brooding, always angry, but always caring fuzzy Canadian. He also can pull of high intense action (black hawk down comes to mind). I kind of think it would be Kismet if he does get the role, being he was in a movie called nightcrawler.
I know, I know…he is already in the MCU as The Executioner. But…He died. I feel if he were to be allowed to grow his hair and facial hair correctly, Karl Urban would be a fantastic Wolverine. He talents are spread far, and wide. From Lord of The Rings, to Riddick. From Star Trek to Dredd. He even has small screen experience on the Fox network in Almost Human. If Wolverine were to ever show up on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., he’d be perfect!
Yes I know this is a wild long shot, but this guy is going places. We haven’t seen the last of him. If Marvel were to bring Wolverine back as a younger person, this would be the best choice. Bill Skarsgård has the skills that pay the bills, and I’m not going to bring his family into this, as he does stand on his own. IT was fantastic and he was terrifying as Pennywise. Hemlock Grove and the Divergent series are testament to his ability to portray both a serious role, while also being able to do so while under grueling action sequences.
As a fellow geek, I love things from my childhood (my 20s count as my childhood, right?). Hugh Wil always have a special place in my heart. I would be ecstatic if we learned that he would come back as Wolverine, but as I said before, a choice might need to be made sooner, rather than later. And I believe the above three would be solid choices.
