Meet Ferdinand- The Last Jedi’s Opening Day Competition
This Friday, expect Star Wars: The Last Jedi to dominate the box office. However, there is one person standing in the eighth installment of Star Wars franchise’s way of complete and utter domination of ticket sales. And it’s one little bull by the name of Ferdinand.
20th Century Fox’s Ferdinand is an animated version of the 1936 children’s book The Story of Ferdinand written by Munro Leaf. In the book, Ferdinand is a young bull who would rather smell flowers and enjoy nature than be all rough and tough like his bovine brothers. One day, he is sent to complete in the local bull fights but becomes distracted by all the flowers that the lovely senorita’s are throwing to the matador. Instead of fighting the matador, he curls up into the bed of flowers and falls asleep.
The animated feature based on that story, looks to steal away some viewers. Fox moved the film ahead a day from it’s original December 15th debut and will now hit theatres nationwide this Thursday. Despite the premiere date change, going to be a tough feat to wrestle the top stop away from Star Wars. But Fox has brought in some heavy hitters to complete with the Last Jedi.
The film stars the voice talents of WWE’s John Cena, SNL’s Kate McKinnon, and the Tenth Doctor, David Tennant. Released by 20th Century Fox Animation and Blue Sky Studios and Davis Entertainment, Ferdinand has already been nominated for two Golden Globe awards. It will be released in both 2-D and 3-D in theatres nationwide.
