TotL – 2018 Superhero Movie Hype Rankings
In a completely unscientific poll, I asked CBI members to rank their level of excitement for the stock of upcoming superhero movies set to drop this year. We got a few responses, and some numbers to go along with them, and there are not many surprises here. It’s the obvious, the outrageous, and the meh, in Outright Geekery’s Top o’ the Lot: 2018 Superhero Movie Hype Rankings.
I’ll drop the chart here in a handy table:
|Ant-Man & Wasp||4||7||2||4||5||5||7||4||4|
As you can see, Marvel’s upcoming Avengers: Infinity War garnered a whopping 5 first place votes, and nothing above a 3, while that same Marvel Studios’ Black Panther captured an amazing 6 second places.
Looking to the bottom of this ladder we have X-Men: Dark Phoenix grabbing 3 eighth place votes, 2 sevens, and nothing below a 6, while the animated Spiderverse flick also failed to impress. It’s the middle of this mess that gets tricky.
While DC’s only film on this list, Aquaman, only received 2 ones, half of the rankings for it were four of above, showing the divisiveness of this franchise is bound to continue, but it may be Deadpool 2 with its surprising top 5 ranking from all participants that earns the movie a number 3 spot overall.
Matt Stevens: Based on the trailers, the talent and the crew, this film just seems like the ultimate breath of fresh air in a climate where superhero movies -while still fun and exciting- can be a bit predictable and maybe even stale at times.
Avengers: Infinity War
David Petowsky Jr.: I would put Infinity War at the top of the list but Ant-man & Black Panther are 2 of my favorite characters so really its about prioritizing who I want to see in action more than the rest. Would also like to add I was actually looking forward to New Mutants but sadly it was pushed back to next year.
Ant-Man and The Wasp
Jacob Lucas: DC fan gonna DC.
X-Men: Dark Phoenix
Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse
