The Darkling Lords have learned that the Transformers have a weakness to their magic and intend to use this to overtake Cybertron and wipe out their machine overlords. Leoric and his Spectral Knights have realized what they’re planning, but will it be too late to make a difference? Once again it seems the Darkling Lords have poisoned their peoples’ minds through fear of the unknown. Is this an attempt to turn the city over to Merklynn or does Virulina have something more nefarious in mind? Will the Transformers be able to devise a defense against their magic or suffer the consequences? This series takes me back to my childhood with these classic toy lines. They’ve captured the excitement of my younger years.
Magdalene Visaggio is writing this would-be epic crossover and reads like an animated feature I wish they’d made back in the day. It has kept me interested in reading more of this series. Since it’s not all the front line of Transformers in this story, it’s still characters you recognize, but, in this case, they are the first line of defense on Cybertron. There’s quite a bit that seems just a little too convenient that the Transformers are destroyed by any of the Visionaries magic powers. Still an enjoyable read though, I’ll be sticking around to see where this goes. This story might just be more than meets the eye.
Fico Ossio has illustrated this issue with a hand on colors by David Garcia Cruz. Fico does a good job transitioning between ‘bots to Visionaries, and David makes these panels pop. This isn’t my favorite Transformers art, but it’s still good and enjoyable work.
I knew this book would be popular with fans just for the subject matter. This was cemented when I heard that the first issue sold out and was already going to a second print. Bottom line is that they have done such a great job with all these classic toy lines and bringing them all into one coherent universe. I have honestly enjoyed this and this issue was really good so much happens to set up next issue, I can’t wait to see what comes next!
This story might just be more than meets the eye.
