Spoiler alert: This review may contain spoilers for Ninja-K #5.
Ninjak has teamed with Ninja-C, his predecessor, to unravel the true nature of MI6, the organization that employs him. Ninja-C is unstable but determined to piece it all together. Unfortunately, this eventually puts Ninjak at odds with him once again in a roller coaster of a story to finish this arc. Each a perfect match for the other due to their training, Colin King will have to pull every last trick he has to stop his foil before leaking all of MI6’s information out into the world, possibly hurting those not meant to even be involved.
One of my favorite things about this issue was the resolve between the two ninjas. Ninjak’s way of knocking off Ninja-D’s focus while the Ninjet smacks into him and sends him careening into the waters below to end the conflict seemed dramatic and intelligent enough to defeat the master ninja. Great stuff like this has been placed throughout this arc and has made for a great read.
This has been my favorite Ninjak story I’ve read. Christos Gage has pulled out the stops and injected the Ninjak mythos with so much incredible backstory and functionality that it’s totally his playground now. Everything from the dialogue to the plot and resolve just seem to work flawlessly here. And let’s not forget that Tomas Giorello has done issue after issue of beautiful art. He’s truly becoming one of the best artists at Valiant and puts forth a great amount of detail with each panel.
This has been pretty phenomenal and has only made me more excited for where Ninja-K goes from here. The next arc will introduce us to the team known as the Coalition, a team that includes Livewire and Doctor Mirage, set to take on some of the hardest bad guys to put down that were assembled by the Jonin. With how well Christos Gage is writing this book, I am sure not to be let down.
