5 Ways to Make a Cool Boba Fett Movie
It has finally been announced. A Star Wars movie featuring Boba Fett is officially in the works. This is huge news for the franchise as the notorious galactic bounty hunter has been a fan favorite character in the rich Star Wars Mythology. With James Mangold set to write and direct, this could be the Star Wars movie that unites the divisive fan base and bring a much needed shot of gritty action to the franchise. Mangold has proven geek cred for his work on Logan, which earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay. He has also directed a fair share of great films that include 3:10 to Yuma, Copland, Identity and Walk the Line. So having a filmmaker of his caliber could serve well on a Star Wars movie based around Boba Fett.
With very little screen time in the saga, Boba Fett has gained a notoriety in the Star Wars Expended Universe, with novels, comics and video games all dedicated to fleshing out his backstory. With many of these stories no longer canon, here is a chance to introduce a fresh take on the character.
Boba Fett may not mean that much to newer Star Wars fans, but for those who grew up on the Original Trilogy, he is revered as the ultimate bad ass. Shrouded in mystery, this space outlaw dwelled in the seedy criminal underworld and dealt with the worse of the scum and villainy of the galaxy. Fans were left disappointed with how easily and comical he was dispatched by a blind Han Solo in Return of the Jedi, but Boba Fett has survived and lived on in the expanded universe.
With this new movie, Boba Fett can be redeemed in the same way Darth Vader was at the end of Rogue One, where fans witnessed the Sith Lord unleash havoc never before seen onscreen. The same can be done for Boba Fett, and here are a few ideas to ensure that his movie can quite possibly be the coolest Star Wars movie ever.
5. The Bounty Hunter Wars
Although this trilogy of novels is no longer canon, a movie based on the Bounty Hunters Guild and its criminal operations could introduce a whole other cinematic side of the Star Wars universe. Bringing in the galaxies illicit activities and gangster elements is essential to Boba Fett’s background. Dealing with Hutt Crime family mob wars and illegal rackets of organized crime, Fett could be the ultimate anti-hero as he navigates this corrupt lawless landscape. The movie could also introduce Prince Xizor, the untouchable don of the Black Sun, the most ruthless galactic mafia in the Republic with ties to Vader and Palpatine. The Bounty Hunter Wars could be a great blueprint for a Star Wars gangster movie with Boba Fett at the forefront.
4. Revenge for Jango
After witnessing his father Jango Fett killed by Mace Windu as a child, Boba could grow up to vow revenge on the Jedi. This movie could feature Fett searching the galaxy for the remaining Jedi Knights who survived Order 66. Darth Vader could also make an appearance and perhaps even team up with Boba Fett as they go on a bloody trail of vengeance slaying Jedi. How cool would that be?
3. A Heist Movie
Boba Fett could be hired to steal some precious booty Ocean’s Eleven style. This movie could feature his cunning intellect and villainous nature as he masterminds the whole heist. Maybe this movie could feature Han or Lando and showcase the catalyst for what turns Boba Fett against them. Of course this movie would have to include plenty of space chases with the Slave 1 being pursued by Tie Fighters. Nothing like a good old fashioned cops and robbers flick, only in space.
2. Double Crossed by Thieves
Boba Fett could reluctantly join a crew of space criminals to do a job for some mob enforcer, (Jabba the Hutt perhaps). But things go awry when the crew decides to double cross Fett and leave him for dead and keep the profits for themselves. But if Boba Fett can survive the Almighty Sarlaac Pit, he ain’t gonna get faded by some knucklehead thugs trying to play him. Fett would become the Man With No Name and hunt down all of them and finally take the score back for himself.
1. The Ultimate Bounty
This is a no-brainer. A heavy price is put out on the head of some criminal so high that every bounty hunter in the galaxy is out to claim it. No, it won’t be Han Solo, we’ve seen that already. But this could be in the early days of Fett’s career where he finds the bounty, and spends the movie fighting off all the other hunters out to take it from him. Just like a western, with plenty of action, chases and shoot outs, this could be right up James Mangold’s alley and be the version of Boba Fett that fans have longed to see. Whatever they do, they better not make him a good guy!
