Rumor: Kathleen Kennedy to Leave Lucasfilms?
The rumor mill never ceases to churn, and today the mill’s sights are set on the future of Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy. Kennedy, who was at the helm of the last four entries to the Star Wars saga, has been taking plenty of flak since The Last Jedi, and with the flop that is Solo: A Star Wars Story currently under performing in theaters fans have been clamoring for her to step down as head of Lucasfilm and wishing for George Lucas’ return to the company/franchise all the while pretending that the prequel trilogy was actually a pleasant experience.
Well folks, your bellyaching and whining may actually come to fruition. According to the “by subscription only” The Ankler has reported that the company will be experiencing a “changing of the guard” this coming September. This comes on the back on the news that Solo: A Star Wars Story is under performing in the box office so badly that it could end up costing the studio of upwards of $80 million in loses, an amount that any studio would deem unacceptable. Not to mention the loss/firing of four directors under her watch, pointing to a lack of communication between Kennedy and her directors.
But who knows, this is something from a $45 a year subscription magazine, it could be nothing but a stunt to boost readership. Time will tell whether or not this rumor will be proven to be anything other than just that.
Personally, the conspiracy theorist in me partially wants to believe this is just some classic Hollywood misdirection to lead the deplorable actions towards Kelly Marie Tran from some of the “fan base”, because being in the news because of a “changing of the guard” is exponentially better than being in it because of the actions of racist scumbags.
