20th Century Fox X-Men: Dark Phoenix Not Casting Mutants
20th Century Fox is the latest to come under fire for its casting options. Just hours after Ruby Rose has been driven off Twitter by angry faux-fans claiming she is neither Jewish enough or gay enough to play her recently cast role of Batwoman in the Arrowverse, X-Men: Dark Phoenix was attacked for its choice decision not to cast mutants.
Fox will reportedly not be using mutants in its casting of the 2019 release, according to sources, which comes as a shock to many. Fans feel like its time Fox starts properly casting the roles. How can the company argue that really the only people who can portray mutants are mutants? Who is casting these films?
Mutants have a long history dating back to the 30s but some were not even outed until much later. Namor was in the closet until decades after the fact and still has not had his story brought to the big screen. One can only assume this is because it simply is not socially acceptable. Given that even in this day and age where someone can be “not gay enough” for a role, Fox really needs to up their game.
Mutants deserve equal representation and it is long overdue. Naturally, Fox representatives could not be reached for comment however it is clear the anti-mutant movement force is strong with these folks. Here at Outright Geekery, we only hope that the film industry begins to recognize how imperative it is to allow mutants to portray their characters properly. There is not anyone capable of doing these roles justice
Deadpool, who we consider to be a much more progressive person, did not even bother to cast any in his films. While we can neither confirm nor deny this, rumours are circling that the spat with David Beckham was actually about Deadpool choosing to not support mutants appearances in his films. Deadpool can be viewed below, attempting an apology to Mr. Beckham who even cracks wise about Green Lantern being the reason he’s ticked before slamming the door in his face.
There has been no further update on whether or not the two have reconciled. We are dedicated to providing the most up to the moment news on this pressing matter and hope fans will speak up. It is well past time we support our mutant brethren and their careers.
