A little while ago I wrote an announcement for the upcoming release of a majestic D&D book, now the time has come, and I own the book. I have to say, the first thing that hit me even before opening the book was the sheer size and weight of this mighty tome. This book is massive! Honestly, I would suggest you pack it as a weapon in your next campaign! This is one slab of a book that could cause a lot of damage if used well!
I had no idea such a large amount of material pertaining to Dungeons and Dragons was available, and I am sure that every single bit of it that was ever created is to be found in this book.
Dungeons and Dragons one of the most iconic games ever to have been created has more than 40 million fans in its history and 10 to 15 million active players. This book is a gift to them. It traces back the entire history of the game from its humble beginnings to the behemoth that it has become today. The book contains more than 700 pieces of artwork from each edition of the game’s core books, supplements and modules, decades of Dungeons & Dragons magazines, advertisements, merchandise and so much more.
But do you think that this is enough? Of course not! There will be a release of an even more impressive slab of a book! A boxed edition which will contain the book and ephemera! It will contain posters, ephemera (it contains great art that is ready for framing should you so desire) and a one of a kind bonus. Indeed, you will receive a copy of the adventure module of Tomb of Horrors, written by Dungeons and Dragons co-creator Gary Gygax himself!
I have to say; the authors have truly outdone themselves. I cannot imagine the hours of work that went not only in the writing of this book but in the research of all the available material. I have never seen a book delve so in depth in the history of a game. But I must be honest here and say that Dungeons and Dragons definitely deserve this book. The history and legacy of this game is far to great to be overlooked. Even just by leafing through this book you can see just how much admiration there is for the game, the art and the artists themselves. It is a true homage to a game beloved by millions.
And with Christmas coming up, I cannot think of anything I would ever want to receive more as a player! That and of course the four of the authors here to join in my next campaign! Can you imagine the advantages you’d have it they joined in…? Guaranteed win!
This book will be available for purchase on the 23rd of October at Amazon.com, BarnesandNoble.com, Powells.com, IndieBound.org or any online bookseller of your choice. Trust me do yourself a favor and treat yourself to the book of the year!
I also had a chance to interview the authors and you can find this interview here.
