Knight is like many creator-owned independent titles, crowd-funded on Kickstarter. We are fast approaching the launch date for the 3rd issue of this book. The estimated Kickstarter Launch is August 7th, 2019, so this is one you definitely want to check out when it launches. Before you ask, yes you can still purchase issues one and two. The two places online that I know of are IndyPlanet and Spinwhizcomics. The one big disappointment for me was that the first two books of this Kickstarter had an interesting backup story. It was only a few pages each, but it was a continuing arc kinda like Conan meets Planet of the Apes. (minus the apes of course) I was just getting into it when I read that Evoluzione Publishing would no longer be continuing that story in the pages of “Knight.” Other than that this was a good read. The story was very well-paced and the writer nailed each issue with a good cliffhanger to continue the next issue from. Knight somehow has lost parts of his soul, over time he has recognized parts of himself in others. Thus absorbing these other people into himself. This made me think of the Firestorm matrix except once Knight absorbs someone they’re gone and inside of him. Well, their essence at least; memories too.
Guido Martinez is the creator, writer, and letterer. That in itself is quite an undertaking. I do understand the reasoning behind this. So far it’s worked well for him. If you haven’t read the first two books yet I will tell you that you’ll need to form your own conclusions as the story progresses. It’s not by any means plot holes but pieces of the puzzle that you need to put together. Guido’s hero is seemingly more complex than others I’ve read as of late in the Kickstarter playing field. As I had the opportunity to read these first three issues together I’ve grown fond of this series. I will definitely be following Guido’s writing career from here on out. He’s won a new fan in me!
Mauricio Campetella was the penciler and inker on this issue. Marcus Odoms lent a hand in the coloring department. I did notice a vast improvement in the looks of the book just since issue one. Mauricio did a good job even inking his own work. Most of the time I’m a fan of getting a top-notch inker on a book. It can sometimes mean a world of difference in the art. Only in the fact that a good inker can only make the artwork better by tightening up the look. Color wise it looked better too. All in all a great independent book.
The countdown has begun, only seven days and this 3rd issue of Knight launches its campaign on Kickstarter. Keep your eyes peeled for this one for sure. I’ll do my best to update this post after it goes live on the site. Another great way to keep up to date would be to Like and Follow their Facebook page. Remember as always Like, Comment, Share, and Keep, it Geek!
