As the New 2020 year rolls through our lives, Outright Geekery lands another interview with this new and alluring Moxxi cosplayer. Her name to the internet is GC-Chan Cosplay who loves pleasing her fans with her amazing character outfits. GC-Chan is a raw unique young woman who loves to speak her mind and does what she wants within reason. Here now is our interview with this lovely lady, whose Celtic heritage has made this cosplay determined to be respected and adored by all. Outright Geekery welcomes GC-Chan Cosplay.
OG: Thank you so much for having a wonderful heart for this interview to happen. May your love for all things be our treasures. Can you tell our fans about yourself?
GGC: My name is Gillian C. (Hence the name GC-Chan) it’s my initials. I was born in Virginia, my birth sign is Pisces but on the last day of Pisces so I tend to be more Aries if you believe in that sort of thing, and I’m mainly Scottish and Irish but I have a ton of other family histories from all over the place. I speak a very little amount of French and I know a little sign language but English is what I’m most proficient in.
GCC: I LOVE Shakespeare, I’ve been in a theatre troupe that puts on a charity Shakespeare show every summer since I was 13, and I’d have to my favorite is Richard III or Midsummer Night’s Dream, or Antony and Cleopatra. I know that’s a top 3 and not just my top one but I don’t think I can choose between them. I not only read Shakespeare I perform it, right now if you asked me to monologue something at you (which every good actor always has one ready) it will have a 95% chance of being Shakespeare.
GCC: My eyes are a type of heterochromia called central heterochromia where my eyes are red/brown in the center, green and gold in the middle and dark green around the outside.
OG: Wow. That’s interesting!
GC: When I’m not cosplaying I’m singing, playing one of the instruments I own (I play 7) or doing commissions.
GCC: I love animals of all kinds, even the creepy crawlies, and the slithery ones. I have a dog myself named Reinhardt! I love fall cause of all the pretty colors, but I was born in spring. If I had to choose one fall. Witcher 3 is my favorite game of all time but BioShock isn’t far behind. I’m not a big fan of battle royale type games and prefer stories over the competition. Some of my friends call me Gill. I have an uncle that used to call me Gill the Pill when I was younger. I started cosplaying pokemon, but I really love superheroes and detailed costumes and armor build.
OG: Let’s go back in time and ask was sort of kid were you? The tough or softy kind?
GCC: I was a troublemaker. Still am. I was bullied a lot because I was an artistic loud ADHD kid. I learned how to be witty because of that. I loved art projects. Always a new mess for my mom to clean, she hated that. she made me clean it up most of the time, but my room was always a mess.
OG: What sort of things did you love to do as a kid growing up? I’m told you’ve been cosplaying since you were six.
GCC: I haven’t been cosplaying since 6 but I have been acting and doing theater since then. Always a ham for attention.
OG: What was your first cosplay outfit?
GCC: My first cosplay was Misty from Pokemon. I still had braces then and I was 13 so almost Misty’s actual age. I had a blast, loved every second. I didn’t have pets for the longest time. I had hamsters for 8 years and now I have a puppy as I mentioned earlier named Reinhardt.
OG: As a young woman, who speaks her mind, has it ever gotten you into trouble? You seem to have a lot of energy and imagination.
GCC: Of course, my mind has gotten me into trouble. I don’t always translate what I’m thinking into words well and have communication issues, and in school, I have always challenged teachers if they tried to dress code me or another girl and eventually they stopped trying. I never got sent to the principal’s office or anything though cause I’m pretty good at talking my way out of situations when necessary.
OG: You seem to have a lot of energy and imagination? What drains your batteries?
GCC: I’m extroverted so being around people gets my creative juices and energy flowing, but alone I’m pretty quiet. I’d say my depression and anxiety that second guess my creativeness is more draining than anything else.
OG: What inspires you to work on a new project?
GCC: I go through a cycle of having this itch to create a new cosplay and will then spend a long time making that cosplay, taking breaks when I come to roadblocks and need time to gather courage and resources to get around them to finishing and wearing the costume and then I get a couple of months where I’m tired of working on super hard and complicated things and will make something easy.
OG: Has your cosplay modeling spun into other endeavors?
GCC: I became interested in doing boudoir and other types of cosplay and I had some friends suggest that I open a Patreon for friends and fans alike to support me in those endeavors, and then I started growing and got invited to guest Tekko Con and now Katsucon and I couldn’t be happier with where I am now.
OG: Would you say your cosplaying has reached a professional level? Is there room for improvement?
GCC: Growing is always fun, but I don’t think I want to be super Cos-Famous or anything. That’s way too much focus and attention both good and bad. I like being me, and I think 500 thousand people all looking at what I’m doing next would make me act very plastic in my online presence.
OG: Are you the type of cosplayer that critical about her outfits?
GCC: I made my first cosplay, and I make and modify almost everything I wear, but I buy cosplays to build off of sometimes when I feel it won’t compromise the look I’m going for.
OG: Then would you agree all your outfits meet your satisfaction?
GCC: I disagree to some extent, because I’ve rushed cosplays that looked worse than a very simple Misty cosplay, but for the most part, yes, you’re always improving.
OG: Lewd Cosplaying. What is your opinion about Lewd cosplaying? Do your fans decide what sort of lewd shots should you be seen in? Or is it your decision?
GCC: I don’t really love doing hypersexualized Lewds but my fans like them and I like making them happy. Not that there’s anything wrong with doing hypersexualized Lewds of course, many of my friends do and they look great. I’m more of a vintage pin-up style gal myself. I love the classy look. I’ve always been very comfortable with my body, but I still have insecurities.
OG: What sort of advice would you offer to cosplayers doing a boudoir or Lewds photos for the first time?
GCC: No one pushes you to take off clothes if you don’t want to. If someone is pressuring you, block them. Nope lol. I say do what you want with your body, just make sure you’re smart and know the photographer you’re working with or are vetted by a good very well trusted friend. WAY too many horror stories on that side of shit going very very wrong with creeps. I only work with friends, like Nick Ferris: Photographer Verrily and FightGuy Photography and a couple of others who are extremely professional and not creepy in the slightest.
OG: Have people you know ever taken advantage of Lewd photos from cosplayers?
GCC: I hate Belle Delphine, she sold other girls nudes without their permission and did a bunch of other shitty things.
GCC: I’m comfortable doing Lewds, I just don’t personally like the aesthetic of an ass up photo, but there’s nothing wrong with that. Cosplay is cosplay and no one gets to gatekeep and decide that “well you didn’t spend enough time on it for this to be considered a cosplay”
OG How have audiences reacted towards your Lewd photos? Good or Bad?
GCC: I ban people from my page for being rude about Lewds or knocking any other cosplay girls for what they do or don’t do.
OG: How’s your support group when you find yourself in a creative jam? What’s the average budget on your projects?
GCC: Sometimes I decide by having a friend asking me to do something, sometimes based on an outfit that I like or a series or character. The budget can be anywhere from $20 to $600 it just depends on the costume.
OG: What would you say is your best Cosplay ever? Do your fans make suggestions for your next outfit/photoshoot?
GCC: My all-time favorite is probably either Raven or Pink Mercy. My fans can make suggestions and if they get a custom boudoir/lewd set then they can give me as many suggestions as they like as long as it’s not nude, but I get the right to veto anything I’m uncomfortable with.
OG: How have your fans treated you over the years?
GCC: My fans are very wonderful and very understanding if I do say no to something which isn’t often.
OG: Are your fans local or worldwide? What sort of fans are they?
GCC: I have fans from all over the world which are kind of insane and unreal to me, and they are very geeky I would say.
OG: Is your fan base more men or more women?
GCC: It’s a decent mix of both but I’d say a tad more men.
OG: Have your photographers been supportive? Do you offer positive energy?
GCC: I really appreciate the photographers who work with me and I like to have fun and not take everything so seriously.
GCC: I say do what you want with your body, just make sure you’re smart and know the photographer you’re working with or are vetted by a good very well trusted friend. WAY too many horror stories on that side of shit going very very wrong with creeps. I only work with friends, like Nick Ferris: Photographer Verrily and FightGuy Photography and a couple of others who are extremely professional and not creepy in the slightest.
OG: Think many in this profession get those awkward photographers? Have you ever?
GCC: I’ve had a couple creeps doing hall shots at cons but I have a wonderful friend and handler who’s there to protect me if I’m not feeling particularly aggressive.
OG: As a young and beautiful woman, does the size of a woman matter like height, weight or bra size when performing a character? Does your shape determine what sort of character to portray?
GCC: Not at all. In fact, I think it brings MORE character and a unique flair to whoever you’re portraying. Personally, I don’t cosplay characters I don’t think will be recognizable in some way if I cosplay them, but that doesn’t put any character truly off-limits if I think I can do it justice.
OG: What sort of cosplay outfits do you love being a part of?
GCC: I love villains. I love superheroes. I love complicated costumes. For me aesthetic and my love or hatred of a character is what makes me want to cosplay them. Like for Ragyo (Kill la Kill), she’s a terrible person that I hate which makes her a fantastic antagonist, and I love her design so I brought her to life. It’s extremely fun to cosplay villains.
OG: Have fans ever asked you to do Body Paint? Is it fun or grueling to do it?
GCC: Bit of both, I have voted on my Patreon often, but I decide many myself. I do body paint often, had to for Jester and my Twi’lek sith OC and Nightcrawler gender-bend. What I want out of a photo shoot depends on the character. I have never chickened out of a shoot.
OG: Have you ever suffered for your artwork? What makes a great background for you?
GCC: I shot Christmas Jinx in the snow. I was shivering. I’ve done other boudoir shoots in the snow. Not for everyone and I had blankets and cocoa nearby but I brave it for my art haha. I love abandoned buildings and overgrown areas they are my TOP aesthetic. I wouldn’t say aggressive. I take direction very well when I’m being professional. Don’t ask my friends though, they’ll tell you I’m a brat haha. I also LOVE doing shoots with friends. Cosplay is better when you have friends to do it with.
OG: How did you get the name GC-Chan?
GCC: GC is my initials, and -Chan is because I’m a whole ass weeb
OG: Are all the cosplay outfits you create the reflections of your personality? Or is your personality a reflection of your cosplay outfits?
GCC: In some way, shape or form, YES!
OG: Does the outfit you wear change your self-confidence or dominance over men? Over women?
GCC: I don’t typically try to dominate anyone else unless it’s a friend and we’re being silly for photos and stuff, but there are some outfits I feel like a badass bitch in.
OG: What’s your most challenging outfit yet?
GCC: Most challenging probably Lich Jaina.
OG: Are all of your outfits made by hand or with a sewing machine?
GCC: Sewing machine and hand made. A mix of both.
OG: The burning question to ask, Do you have any Tattoos? Anything you’ve interested in in the future?
GCC: Well, I have 4 so far and many more planned. All four are on my thighs and they all mean something to me respectively but I really like the aesthetic. I think they give a hint of me in every cosplay I do, but I know people who cover theirs. To each their own I guess.
OG: On those days you can relax, what sort of things do you enjoy doing?
GCC: Lush Products like face masks and bath bombs, I love music or cuddling my puppy. Sometimes dinner with friends. I have this oversized pair of paint covered sweats that I love to wear on really lazy days.
OG: What’s sort of television shows do you enjoy watching?
OG: What sort of things do you do when you are not cosplaying?
GCC: I spend my entire fall at my local renaissance faire and used to work there for a while. I don’t really go out much to hang out spots I prefer the comfort and privacy of being home when I’m with friends.
OG: Is there anything you love to collect as a hobby or personal satisfaction?
GCC: I used to collect snowglobes when I was a kid, now I have a small collection of figures from anime and video games. I collect Kylo Ren stuff for my Kylo shrine, which I 100% am not joking about. I love my emo barbie. I also love Goth shoes and Lita boots.
OG: Is the life of a striving cosplayer ever hectic? Is your life peaceful?
GCC: I bullet journal and keep a calendar. Honestly, it helps but life isn’t really ever peaceful for me lately but that’s how it is sometimes.
OG: Do you workout in order to keep yourself toned and physically fit?
GCC: I naturally am very skinny because my metabolism is insane. You’d have to ask my friends, my best guess would either be how energetic I am or how skinny I am. I really want to get into Aerial silks but I’m currently going to the gym to become strong enough to do it.
OG: Do you profit from the cosplaying that you do or do you have other ventures?
GCC: I am able to profit from it in a sense, but it mostly just goes back into cosplay, I have other jobs to actually make a profit off of. I would love to make more off of it though so I could go to west coast cons. I do wig commissions which I make most of my money off of from cosplay.
GCC: I’m in cosmetology school right now, so I don’t really make a living right now, but hopefully, in the future, I will be. I’ve worked as a preschool teacher and worked in restaurants before but doing hair full-time is my next step towards making a living and being a self-sustaining adult.
OG: Are there any cosplay ventures GC-Chan be interested in doing various photoshoots?
GCC: A bunch of couple cosplays. They’ll be shot wherever I feel is most appropriate. I wanna go to Iceland to the ice caves and get amazing Lich Jaina photos. Maybe to Ireland or Scotland for some really spectacular scenery. I’d also love to get some photos in Japan.
OG: What sort of advice GC-Chan can offer to those inspiring cosplayers out there?
GCC: Follow what makes you happy, not what you think people will like or what will be popular.
Let’s ask GC-Chan Cosplay our, “So-Far OutRight Just-Geekery questions!”
OG: How do you react when someone cuts you off when driving to a convention?
GCC: I have the worst road rage
OG: Is there a particular cosplayer you would love to collaborate on doing a photoshoot with?
GCC: Autumn Ivy is an inspiration to me, or my good friend Fairly Fantastic Cosplay (Who’s AMAZING not just fairly fantastic)
OG: Is Latex wear a girl’s best friend?
GCC: It’s fun. Hard to get in. I don’t own much unless someone wants to change that 😉
OG: How do you describe a glass cup as being half-full or half-empty?
GCC: Its a glass of water does it matter, you probably haven’t had water all day so just drink and keep moving, you’re hogging the fridge.
OG: Have you ever hurt someone’s feelings when playing an RPG game?
GCC: I don’t think so? I haven’t played in a while so I can’t remember.
OG: Who would win in a fight: Harley vs. You. Jinx vs. You. Misty vs. You?
GCC: Draw between me and Harley.
GCC: Jinx has a BAZOOKA no I’m not winning.
GCC: And Misty can eat dirt cause she’s weak compared to my pokemon team.
OG: What character (Superhero/Villian) on a comic book cover would you be with?
GCC: Can I say Kylo Ren even though he’s not a comic character?
GCC: I have a shrine of Kylo stuff. I’m not kidding.
OG: Today’s your lucky day. Netflix has given you the go for your 1st Annual Celebrity Hottub special. Who would you invite for your Hottub special (5 people)?
GCC: Adam Driver, Brendan Urie, Trevor Noah, John Mulaney, and Henry Cavill.
GCC: I want Driver and Urie to make out with me, I just really want to have conversations with the rest.
OG: Did I mention our interview is a PG-13?
OG: How can someone tell if GC-Chan is absolutely angry with something?
GCC: Haha, oh you’ll know. I’ll either be VERY polite or I will CALL YOU OUT.
GCC: AKA Don’t take photos of cosplayers at cons without asking first or I WILL HUNT YOU DOWN.
OG: I pity the fool who signs his own “Death Sentence”.
OG: What do you hate most about men/women?
GCC: That they have the capacity to think that they’re better than someone else based solely on gender and skin color
OG: What musical song would you sing to win a million dollars?
GCC: Hamilton, only because I’m sure I know the words.
OG: What myth right now would you like to dispel about women to today’s time?
GCC: Women shouldn’t be kept from holding office because men think we’re too emotional because we bleed once a month.
OG: Was there ever a time someone wanted to photograph your feet?
OG: That’s it. Nothing else? Why is my imagination is being pulled into the Dark Side?
OG: What is GC-Chan’s biggest Pet Peeve?
GCC: People not asking for my consent for things.
OG: Is there any movie that will make GC-Chan cry every time she see it?
GCC: I cry so so easily but I will ALWAYS cry for Bridge to Terabithia.
OG: Would you say you are a Dark and Complicated person?
GCC: I’m not a dark person and all people are complicated. Life is complicated.
OG: Is Tacos and Red Bull your source of power?
GCC: [email protected]#*% NO!
OG: Do men/women fall in love at first sight?
GCC: They fall in lust at first sight.
OG: Are you a Germaphobe?
GCC: Nope I was a preschool teacher for some time, Haha!
OG: So kids having boggers hanging from their noses had no effect on you…
OG: If your pets can talk to you, what celebrity voice would you want them to speak in? GCC: Darin De Paul for obvious reasons
OG: Is coffee, tea, chocolate, tacos or alcohol your catnip?
GCC: Tea is what I drink most often but coffee, when needed, keeps me going.
OG: Does NO mean NO when it comes to Sky-Diving?
GCC: I’m sorry what ???
OG: This question seems to be the most hated among cosplayers. Can I get a Hug?
GCC: It forces us to either say yes or look bad ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
OG: That is a wrap! Thank you so much, Gillian. This has been a wonderful experience for our readers and this reporter. If I could ask one more question and where can our fans find more of you?
GCC: Thanks so much for the opportunity and a chance to tell my side of the story. You can come to check GC-Chan at these websites:
