BOOK REVIEW: GIDEON FALLS #21
Oh, hey, Mom. I’m in the middle of writing a book review for the new job I was telling you about. It’s a freelance writing job. How much does it pay? Well, it doesn’t really pay anything right now. Uh, no, Mom, I won’t be moving out anytime soon. And, uh, yes, I’ll still be living in the basement for a little while longer. It might pay something down the road though. How long? I don’t know, four or five years. Hey! At least it’s a job! Geesh. Sorry about that. Just checking in with my biggest fan. Anyway, let’s get to this week’s Dandy Don the Valiant’s weekly review. Well, my very first weekly review here at Outright Geekery.
How do I love thee, Jeff Lemire? Let me count the ways. This conclusion to the 5 part, “Pentoculus: The Eater of All Things,” really brought the darkness out into light. The evil being known as The Laughing Man takes center stage in not only one version of Gideon Falls, but two. The Multiverse comes into full effect as Norton and Clara take on the Laughing Man in the small-town version of Gideon Falls, while at the same time, Father Fred and Angie are taking him on in a large-town version of Gideon Falls. It looks like in each version that the Laughing Man is cornered and sure to be vanquished. Or will it? Could there be more versions of Gideon Falls to be seen? The reader will have to continue on with the story to find out. Stay tuned.
This story has the right amount of suspense, mystery, excitement, and horror that the fans of Gideon Falls will surely love. The Black Barn remains prominent in the story and continues to serve as a gateway for the Laughing Man to spread his evil throughout the Multiverse. Jeff Lemire continues to keep his fans on the edge of their seats. And his storytelling really comes to light, or dark, depending on your perspective, with the eye-popping art of Andrea Sorrentino, colorist Dave Stewart, and lettering and designer Steve Wands. If you love great and original storytelling, with eye pleasing art, this book is for you!
I don’t know if they liked it yet, Mom, I just turned it in! Oh, boy.
