Dandy Don the Valiant Review: BANG! #1 – Move Over James Bond!
Oh, hey, Mom. Yes, I’m getting ready to write another review about one of my all-time favorite writers: Matt Kindt. What’s his book called? BANG! MOM! Are you okay? No, Mom, BANG! is the name of the book, no one is shooting at you. Get up off the floor! Here, let me help you. You could’ve thrown your hip out or something. No, it would have been YOUR fault. I know the basement floor is cold, I live here! Geesh. Sorry about that OG peeps. Now, let’s get to this week’s Dandy Don the Valiant’s weekly review.
Let me start by saying that Matt Kindt is one of my all-time favorite writers (I guess I already said that, but that was the monologue. I definitely don’t mind saying it again). When it’s all said and done, I truly feel he will go down as one of the legendary writers in this industry. I’ve loved everything he’s done from Sweet Tooth to MIND MGMT to Ninjak and everything in between. He knows how to weave an entertaining adventure and BANG! #1 is no exception. Kindt draws the reader in with an exciting, dramatic filled, 6-page whirlwind that would give James Bond a run for his money. And that’s just the beginning! The rest of the issue sets up this 5-part mini-series with a lot of intrigue and mystery. It’s like reading a prologue, then the main story, while hoping that the epilogue never arrives. Thomas Cord is a British MI-X secret agent in search of a terrorist group known only as Goldmaze. But not everything is as it seems; and neither is Thomas Cord. And guess who could possibly have all the answers: a science fiction author? This is going to be a fun roller coaster ride to say the least. If you like secret agent stories with plenty of action and intrigue, mixed with plenty of mystery, and topped off with science fiction, this has to go to the top of your pull list. This issue could have very easily been the pilot of a new TV series or a movie preview. It’s that good!
Mix Matt Kindt’s writing with the art of Wilfredo Torres and color art by Nayoung Kim, and you have a possible Eisner winning formula here. The only sad thing about this, is that it’s only going to be a 5-issues mini-series. This story has major potential to be a huge hit for Matt Kindt and Dark Horse. I am most definitely looking forward to issue #2 with lots of impatience. Is it out yet?
BANG! Very funny, Mom. I saw you sneaking up on me. Yes, I did! No, I did not jump. Oh, boy.
