X-Men Fan Gives the Perfect Mutant Valentine’s Day Gift
One of the coolest aspects of Marvel Comics’ new Dawn of X status quo are the Krakoan Gates that allow mutants to instantaneously travel to and from the newly formed island nation via gates located all over the globe and even further aboard. These gates are literally grown from special Krakoan flowers, These blooms are so integral to writer Jonathan Hickman’s new mutant status quo that there was even a series of variant covers spotlighting the magical plants. Well, one X-Men fan took the idea of Krakoan flowers to the next level for an epic Mutant Valentine’s Day Gift.
Facebook Group House of X member Eric Scott Smith made his very own Krakoan Gate flower for his boyfriend, and the end result was a brilliantly romantic Valentine’s Day gift with an ingenious Dawn of X twist.
If you haven’t been following the new X-Men status quo, Marvel’s Merry Mutants have created a Mutant Utopia on the nation of Krakoa, an island that is itself a mutant, and happens to grow diverse flowering plants, each with various magic-like abilities. A certain type of these flowers is able to grow into a Krakoan Gate, a portal that allows mutants to teleport instantly to Krakoa or any other Krakaon Gate. There’s a gate in New York’s Washington Park, The Savage Land, Washington D.C., and even more remote locales like The Blue Area of the Moon, Mars, and the cargo hold of the Starjammers starship. The fact that only mutants can utilize these portals has added a compelling component to the new X-Men status quo, allowing the X-Men to be just about anywhere in the world in a matter of moments, but it’s also provided a quick escape to safety for persecuted mutants all over the world.
We love everything writer Jonathan Hickman has done with the X-Men in the last year or so, and we’re happy to be able to highlight the creativity of fellow fans who share our passion.
