Hello, all social media surfers. This is Raven Steel, from OutrightGeekery.com with another amazing interview born in a country known for its landscape beauty and vibrate culture of Vietnam. Her name is Hannah, but you might know her on the internet as a cosplayer name, Yuji Koi. A cosplayer who absolutely loves doing what she does. Now making a life for herself, Yuji has won many cosplay awards and has made a name for herself throughout the cosplay network, both home and abroad. With her heavy photo shoot scheduling as well as her numerous appearances, Outright Geekery’s fortunes were our favor today as Yuji Koi was gracious to allow this exclusive interview to magically appear. So without further adieu, her the charismatic cosplayer and Vietnamese sensation, Yuji Koi.
OG: Hello and welcome into our hearts. Hannah, we at Outright Geekery would like to thank you for allowing us to tell your side of your story to the world. May your towels never be darkened. Please tell us about yourself with us.
Koi: I’m Hanh, but you guys can call me Hannah, that’s easier. I was born in Vietnam and my nationality, of course, I am Vietnamese. My birth sign is Scorpio and I speak both English and German. I used to live in Hanoi Vietnam, but now I just moved permanently to Swiss. My color eyes are dark brown. When I am not cosplaying, I spend my time learning new languages, playing/hearing music and scouting around for good food. People may not know, but I am an animal lover and Yes, I especially love cats. I don’t like the Summer too much as my body is not well-reacted to sunlight and the heat, maybe cause I was born in Wintertime? I love playing LOL, mobile leagues and games related to music. Yuji Koi, Koi means love ❤️. My favorite type of character is female warriors or medium-size sexy characters.
OG: What sort of young girl were you growing up in Vietnam?
Koi: I was a nice docile kid if I have to say haha
OG: Was it tough growing up?
Koi: A bit but when I grew up and looked back, it was nothing.
OG: Were you ever bullied growing up?
KOi: Nahhh, luckily 😝
oG: Did you move a lot while growing up?
Koi: A bit, I moved houses like 7 times.
OG: Wow. That was a lot of packing and unpacking. I guess boxes were precious to have around the house.
OG: What sort of things you love to do as a kid growing up?
Koi: My childhood was a bit plain as I was studying and playing games all the time.
OG: What is life like in Hanoi Vietnam?
Koi: Everything is easy to get, cheap and great cuisine.
OG: Do you feel the lives of Vietnamese women have changed for the better?
Koi: Indeed 😚
OG: How old were you when you first cosplay?
Koi: I was just 17 y/o.
OG: What was your first cosplay outfit ever?
Koi: It was a Hatsune Miku.
OG: How was your first experience?
Koi: It was decent, that’s why I keep up with it till now, Haha.
OG: You seem to have a lot of energy and imagination. Does it drain you often?
Koi: Sometimes I found it quite tiring with many shooting and costume preparation and stuff, but that’s how it is.
OG: How do you get pumped up?
Koi: Once I receive support and compliments from fans, I get the energy back asap.
OG: What inspires you to work on a new project?
Koi: Cause of some interesting designs from some new characters.
OG: How did Yuji Koi become popular in cosplaying?
Koi: I don’t know! It got famous when I didn’t really pay attention to it, am I famous now already? Haha,
OG: What was the first major cosplayer outfit that people took notice of you?
OG: Did you make it or did you buy one?
Koi: My costumes mostly are half made by me as my friends will help me build the rest of the stuff if I’m struggling with it. Sometimes I also buy it if I don’t have the time to make my own.
OG: Are more and more Vietnamese people doing more and more cosplaying?
Koi: Many people joined cosplay as I have noticed.
OG: Has it become widely accepted?
Koi: I think yes.
OG: People say when cosplaying for the first time, it will be hard at first, but it gets better with time and patience. Was that true for you?
Koi: It is! You should see my first cosplay picture vs now, Haha.
OG: What is your favorite cosplay outfit and why? Is there a cosplay outfit now that you don’t like but your fans love you in?
Koi: I love all my cosplay so there’s no such thing as that, Haha.
OG: What is your opinion about Lewd Cosplaying?
Koi: I always wanna try lewd but I think my personality doesn’t allow it, Haha. I get super shy whenever I try to do something a bit lewd, so better stay like this. Haha. OG: Should new/experienced cosplayers do it?
Koi: They should do it if it is something that fits them 😝
OG: As a young and beautiful woman, does your size, as a cosplayer, matter what character you become?
Koi: It is really a big matter. You need to see what you have then chosen the one you wanna become, the smaller the gap, the less work you need to do.
OG: Do people mistake you for another nationality?
Koi: They usually mistook me for Chinese, Thai or half Caucasian. No one sees me as Vietnamese.
OG: Are your outfits based on artistry, selected by your fans to wear, or just what feels right?
Koi: Just what’s feel right, since I joined Patreon, now I started to do cosplaying that fans pay to request too.
OG: Have you ever done body paint?
Koi: I haven’t but I wanna try!
OG: What would you prefer to photograph your cosplay wear, indoor or outdoor locations?
Koi: Depends on the weather, if it’s too hot then indoor 😏
OG: Do you suffer a lot for your artwork? Doing long hours and little appreciation for it? Koi: Sometimes I do feel like that, but as long as they’re still at least 1 person supporting me for what I do, I’ll continue with it!
OG: What absolutely frustrates you when doing a photoshoot?
Koi: It’s when the photographer can’t transfer my ideas to the photos that he/she took. But that does not happen anymore as I’ve chosen my photographer more carefully lately.
OG: What has been your most challenging cosplay outfit ever made? Why was it such a challenge? Do you own a sewing machine or do you sew by hand?
Koi: I have my own sewing machine but my skill wasn’t that good.
OG: Has cosplaying improved your skills?
Koi: The skills that have been improved were my photoshop skills, crafting skills and posing skills.
OG: What motivates Yuji Koi to create a new cosplay outfit for conventions or photoshoots?
Koi: It will be the love for the character, nothing else.
OG: Have there been any awards won for your cosplay artistry?
Koi: I’ve gotten quite a few awards till now, both domestically and internationally. OG: How did you get that name?
Koi: I choose Yuji cause I like the name Yuri but so many people took that name already, that’s why I changed it a bit. Koi is because it means love ❤️. Also, Yuji is a mostly male name in Japan, which means I do well both in male and female cosplay.
OG: Do you do any workouts to help keep yourself tone and physically fit or is it just all-natural?
Koi: I used to be a bit chubby, a few years ago I went to the gym to make my body toner. Now I stop it and my body stays the same, I guess now I can call it all-natural.
OG: Who are your biggest fans, men or women?
Koi: Before women, cause I used to cosplay many male characters, now probably men.
OG: Do you own any tattoos? Do they have any special meaning?
KOi: I have 4. The first 3 are related to zodiac signs, the 4th one is a couple of tatts with my fiance.
OG: What sort of tattoos do you want to have in the near future?
Koi: I think that’s enough, for now. Haha.
OG: On those miracle days you don’t have photoshoots or doing any conventions, how does Yuji Koi pamper herself?
Koi: Just stay at home, order delivery of some of my favorite food and watch something nice from the Internet.
OG: Is there any comfortable clothing you just love to wear around your house/apartment for the whole day?
Koi: Hoodies is love. Hoodies is life.

Koi: Things related to music.
OG: Are Vietnamese female cosplayers share each other outfits?
Koi: Sometimes yes to save the cost of buying things.
OG: Do your fans and people you meet always happy to see you?
Koi: They do as I always think about doing silly things in convention to bright up people I met.
OG: What is the first thing people notice about you when they meet you for the first time?
Koi: They said I have a resting b*tch face, that’s why now I try to smile more wherever I go.

OG: Will it be shot in a studio or some exotic location around you?
Koi: Since I moved to Swiss, a more natural scene will be captured than the Japanese exotic location 😢.

OG: That would be amazing to see!!!
