Russian Life of Fransuaza Stein Cosplay
Fransuaza Stein Cosplay
Hello, Outright Geekery fans out there where all of our cosplay interviews come alive. We travel to one of the biggest countries over the eastern seaboard, mother Russia. It is here we are introduced to this lovely young lady who will make every day feel like Springtime. Her name is Ekaterina but she’s better known as Fransuaza Stein who absolutely loves to cosplay her favorite characters. With being just a quarter of a century old, Fransu makes all of the cosplay outfits herself. No challenge is too great for her as she brings Anime and mythical creatures feel real and they are stunning! Please give a heartfelt warm reception for Empress of Russia, Ms. Fransuaza Stein.
OG: Thank you so much for having Outright Geekery into your surroundings. We are happy to meet you!
Fran: Thank you so much. I was so excited to get a chance to do this interview with Outright Geekery, I’ve heard so much about you and your interviews.
OG: Wonderful. We, at Outright, always like to give words of inspiration to our interviewer so that in times of strife and hardships, these words would give you comfort.
OG: Happiness is not something readymade. It comes from your own actions. Now with that being said. Let us proceed.
OG: Please let’s open up and tell our reader all about Fransuaza Stein.
Fran: Hi, nice to meet you! I’m Fransu or Fransuaza Stein. I live in Moscow, Russia, I’m ¾ Russian and ¼ Mongolian. My birthday is on 31 December, I’m 25 years old now and I’m a Capricorn. I have a degree in Microbiology. I enjoy learning foreign languages. For now, I am learning English, German and I studied Japanese for 2 years but had to leave my courses unfortunately because I didn’t have enough time for this. I hope to continue learning Japanese. I also know several phrases and words in Italian that my friends taught me ( like “Hi I’m lost, help me please” because I can easily get lost everywhere). Soon I’m going to pass an exam in German to receive a certificate for the B1 level and I’m a bit nervous.
Fran: I adore animals and I live together with a small bird, who has already become a part of my family. In my childhood, I also had a bird and a beautiful fish. I adore cats and seals and I’m afraid of spiders, insects and a bit of dogs X)
I have some awards as a cosplayer for my photos, videos, and stage performances.
Fran: Some of my photos were published in magazines abroad and I’m really happy and proud because of this. I’ve also judged conventions in Russia twice. It was a wonderful experience. I love D.Gray-man, One piece and Macross most of all. I also love Terry Pratchett’s books and I’m a true Potterhead, I’m team Slytherin. I enjoy watching comedies and detectives.
OG: What sort of child were you growing up? Were you enrolled in gymnastics or ballet as a child?
Fran: I can’t remember my childhood perfectly well but I can tell you for sure that I was a calm and shy kid. I practiced ballet and some other dance classes. I also practiced drawing a bit.
OG: I would think in Russia, it was a rough be a kid, socially. Were you ever bullied?
Fran: Unfortunately I was bullied at school for my face and good marks.
OG: We always hear that Russia has one of the harshest climates. Is it true?
Fran: Usually, we have a cold winter and a hot summer so soon we will see what will happen to the temperature this summer
Fran: Russia has a really severe climate. I remember one winter when I was 12 years old. It was -30 outside or so, it was impossible to walk a lot because you couldn’t even feel your face after 5 minutes of walking. Schools were canceled and I was really happy to have an extra week for chilling at home X))
OG: Ah, but the snowball fights out there must be epic. Are you a winter kind of girl?
Fran: I loved winter outdoor activities when I was a kid and I still love them, but I don’t have any chance to play snowballs, make a snowman or a snow angel. Back in my childhood, I loved doing it when I was in the countryside with my grandparents, I also tried some winter sports. This winter was too warm for Russia.
OG: How do you keep yourself mobile for photoshoot, conventions, or just work?
Fran: I don’t have a car right now because I’m afraid to receive a driving license. It’s really strange, I know but I can’t help it. So every day I use public transport. I hope my fear will help even a little to save the environment (let’s be a bit positive)
OG: It seems a lot of Russian girls love Hollywood stars, who was your 1st celebrity crush?
Fran: My first celebrity crush was… Oh, Johnny Depp. And I still like him!
OG: Is making friends easy for you?
Fran: During my childhood, I didn’t have a lot of friends unfortunately so I didn’t have a lot of people to share my interests with but now I have really good friends and I’m really proud to be their friend!
OG: Let’s go into Fransu cosplay history and ask, what made you go into cosplaying?
Fran: One day I just wanted to try my favorite character on me because I got inspired by other cosplayers. It was Fran from Katekyo hitman Reborn! My friend helped me with the costume, we made it together and yes, I was really nervous!!
OG: Since that time, has your cosplay skills improved/changed for the better?
Fran: I really hope so X)) After that, I tried to learn how to make costumes by myself step by step. It was really difficult and I still have a lot to know about this. I’m still not so good at making armors, for example. I have a lot of things to learn to become a pro
OG: Do you feel there’s a Gothic/Dark soul cosplayer in you just wanting to come out?
Fran: I think you’re right about gothic vibes on photos X) But I’m not sure that I’m a Dark Soul cosplayer
OG: Where do you take those fabulous photos your fans love to see?
Fran: Mostly we take photos in photo studios- we’re lucky to have a lot of interesting photo studios in Moscow. During late spring-early autumn, we can take photos outside and we try to use it as much as we can. Sometimes people shoot outside during winter times when everything is covered with snow, but I’m not such an extreme person, I try to take care of my health because I’m not so young, you know X.)
OG: Is wearing makeup a big thing when cosplaying a character? Are you good at it?
Fran: I’m not a pro at make-up so I guess I make a lot of “mistakes” while putting my make-up on. Mostly I use different bright eyeshadows not only for my cosplay but also while going out with my friends or at work. I also love colorful mascara.
OG: Sometimes, cosplayers, like yourself, cannot always make the public happy. Do you find yourself being criticized by people? (Those Bastards)!
Fran: In Russia, you can receive a lot of negative critics even if you look good- people will always find something to tell you in a rude way. But, hopefully, this situation is getting better and people try to support each other more. I’m not a fan of critics. Cosplay is a hobby and we should support each other.
OG: Do cosplayers help/protect/defend other cosplayers who are attacked by these people?
Fran: It depends. Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Everything depends on the people. But I can’t understand these attacks. We’re all in one community, we have the same interests and it’s our hobby that brings more colors to your lives, so why spoil it?
OG: That was a beautiful quote!
OG: There’s always a set of characters that cosplayers love to portray. What sort of cosplay characters are you drawn to?
Fran: Oh, Yes! I love powerful characters. I usually cosplay these types of girls. For example, since my childhood, my favorite Disney Princess was Mulan because she was strong and brave and my dream was to become like her. I also love making dresses with a lot of small details and my dream cosplay, for now, is a new costume of Alice from Scissors crown.
OG: Are you comfortable doing various characters?
Fran: Mostly yes because I try to choose characters I really love or that made a big impression on me
OG: Is cosplaying in Russia very popular and do you see more men or women doing it?
Fran: In Russia, there are a lot of girls in cosplay and not so many boys X) But I think it’s like in every country. And in Russia, it’s getting more and more popular every year. But while taking photos outside (in parks or somewhere else) there are still a lot of people staring at you or interrupting the process
OG: As a beautiful woman, does the size of a woman matter (The height, bra size, or weight) when performing a character? Are you self-conscious about yourself or do you make the best out of it and go with the flow?
Fran: I don’t think we should pay a lot of attention to our bodies because cosplay is a hobby and a form of art where everyone can do almost anything. In Russia, everyone is doing his best here.
OG: Can cosplaying be a challenge when you have a visual look you want to achieve?
Fran: I try to do my best and learn something new with each new costume I make. Sometimes I face a lot of problems while making costumes and wigs or planning shootings but somehow I try to fix everything so that I can show people good results
OG: Photographers. They can be your best friend or your worst enemy? What’s your experience with photographers?
Fran: Yes, we have such stuff by some photographers. I prefer working with my friends because for me the most important thing is to feel comfortable during the shooting and have a good result. Mostly we take photos inside a photo studio because it’s hard to take photos outside during the whole year in Russia because of our climate.
OG: This question seems to be split down the middle with various responses. Are all the cosplay outfits you create are the reflections of your personality?
Fran: I make my costumes and wigs by myself and I always add some extra details to my costumes that are not present on official arts just because I think I need these details x). I can also ask my friends for their opinion or help if I face some problems or make something I’ve never done before.
OG: What’s been your most difficult/expensive outfit ever?
Fran: The most difficult and expensive cosplay is Trinity Blood for sure! It took me a lot of time to finish all the small details the way I liked it. Scissors crown cosplays were a bit cheaper but still! Thrones cosplays can eat your money for sure X ) Now I’m making Diaochan from Dynasty Warriors 8 and it seems to be the most expensive cosplay ever!
OG: Do you challenge yourself with your cosplay skills, like Gender-Bend characters?
Fan: Sometimes I decide to try something new as for example cross-play but I do I rather seldom because I’m not sure that my face and body is good enough for this
OG: How did you come up with the name Fransuaza Stein?
Fran: I can’t remember how I got my cosplay name, I’m really sorry! It was a long time ago, more than 6 years ago!
OG: Here is the sought after question in this interview, do you have any tattoos or any piercings on you?
Fran: Unfortunately, I don’t have any but I really want to get 3 tattoos. The only thing that stops me from doing this is pain X)
OG: Are you able to profit from your cosplay or artwork? Or do you suffer like the rest of us?
Fran: I don’t earn a lot of money with my cosplays, sometimes I sell prints and costumes, that’s all. I work as a geneticist in a hospital for people who have severe neurological diseases. Maybe soon I’ll change my job but who knows?
OG: A cosplayer’s life can be grueling. How do you keep yourself motivated?
Fran: Sometimes it’s really hard to keep yourself motivated, I guess every person has such periods when you just want to stay at home doing nothing. For me, it’s really hard to keep motivated sometimes because my work is not so easy and I get tired easily so sometimes I do nothing during my weekends staying in bed and watching movies
OG: What sort of projects or up-coming events for Fransuaza Stein cosplay will you be doing this 2020?
Fran: We’re doing a dance project for One Piece and I can’t wait to show it! Now I have a lot of One-piece, Hazbin Hotel, BanG Dream, League of Legends, Macross Frontier and Darling in the Franxx costumes. I also hope to finish my Dynasty Warriors costume for sure!
OG: We would absolutely love to see all those cosplay photos in a calendar. Any possibilities?
Fran: If some people would be interested in cosplay calendar for 2021 I think we could make one, but it’s just the question of time x)
OG: What would you like, Fransuaza Stein be known for and be remembered?
Fran: I’d like to be known for my costumes. My dream is to show my costumes on different events all over the world, share my interests and find new friends there. I’ve already been to Germany (Dokomi in Duesseldorf) and Italy (Lucca comics and games). It was a wonderful experience!
Time we ask Fransuaza Stein cosplay our, “So-Far OutRight Just-Geeky questions!”
OG: What motives Fransuaza Stein to get up in the early morning hours to meet her public?
Fran: I still can’t figure out how I do this every day
OG: What secret ability or talent does Fransuaza can do that no one knows about?
Fran: I can eat a lot without gaining a lot of weight!
OG: Has anyone ever called you, “My favorite beautiful babushka”?
Fran: Nooooo! I’m not old enough to be babushka X ))
OG: Where in the world would you absolutely love to visit and do a photoshoot in?
Fran: Germany, Japan, Ireland, Italy
OG: What would scare Fransuaza Stein so badly from her sleep?
Fran: Horrors, spiders, and insects!!!
OG: Do you think BigFoot (Снежного человека) is just someone dressed in cosplay?
Fran: Hmm, interesting idea! Never thought about it X) And What do you think?
OG: I believe we all live in a multi-dimensional universe and I am the cosplayer and you’re the reporter. Wait. Did I just say this out loud?
OG: What sort of gifts can your fans bring to make you cry uncontrollably?
Fran: Sweets, toys
OG: And since we are crying, what movie will absolutely make you cry every time you watch it?
Fran: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows pt.2
OG: How do you say in Russian, “If you cannot do great things, do small things in a great way.
Fran: It was difficult but I think “Тише едешь- дальше будешь” is the best interpretation.
OG: What is the first thing people notice when meeting Fransuaza S.for the first time?
Fran: My height and my voice usually because people can easily recognize me in cosplays if they hear me talking
OG: What sort of instrument/song would you play/sing to win a million US dollars?
Fran: Aaaah I’m not so good at singing so I won’t be the winner, sorry.
OG: Is there an American food you would absolutely love to taste for the first time?
Fran: I’m a fan of food, to be honest X ) So give me all your traditional dishes, I’ll try them all!
OG: Is there a myth or fable about Russian women you would like to dispel right now?
Fran: It’s a shame from my side but I don’t know a lot of myths or stereotypes about Russians. But! I love watching videos on youtube called “Meanwhile in Russia” or something like this
OG: Have you ever held any form of weapon in your hand?
Fran: Cosplay weapon? Yes, of course!
OG: What is the #1 thing people in Russia love to do more than anything?
Fran: I think it’s chilling!
OG: What do female cosplayers do after a long day doing a photoshoot?
Fran: First of all- taking off all the makeup we have for sure!
OG: If you could have one wish, what would you wish for?
Fran: Peace in the world forever and making governments of all countries work on environment safety. I think it’s better to use this wish like this.
OG: If your life was made into a movie, what celebrity would you want to play yourself?
Fran: Yifei Liu
OG: What word would you describe your entire life as?
Fran: Creative sweet mess? X )
OG: If we could visit you tomorrow, what places would you show us?
OG: This question is a question most cosplayers don’t really like to hear, Can I get a hug?
Fran: Yes, please, I love hugs!
OG: That is a wrap and in “Tha Books”! Thank you so much, Fransuaza Stein, for being such a beautiful as well as a wonderful person for doing this interview. If we could as one more question and ask where can people find more of you and be a fan?
