A Message from Golden Kids’ Dan Johnson: A Family Comic Friday Extra!
Greetings to all you kids, parents and gaurdians out there! The OG staff knows that it’s hard not being able to go out and do fun stuff! So, as we find out about super cool stuff you can do at home as a family, Family Comic Friday will share it! Here’s our good buddy Dan Johnson to tell you about some awesome stuff awaiting you at Golden Kids Comics!
Hello to all you Golden Kids out there. My name is Dan Johnson, the writer of Golden Kid Comics and one of the company’s co-founders. Right now, things are pretty scary out in the real world. I know a lot of you are afraid of so many things that you have no control over. We are all being asked to stay in our homes and many folks cannot go to their jobs. A lot of you have also seen your sources of income diminished or wiped out for the time being. Many of us are feeling isolated and alone, unable to be with our friends and loved ones outside our home. And the people who are allowed to go to work, the folks deemed essential, they have to cope with their fears on top of the stress of meeting the demands of our society to keep things running.
I wish I could tell you when all of this is going to be better. I wish I could tell you that on such and such date, all this will be a bad memory. Right now, the future is just not that clear and we are all living day to day. I do know that a better day is coming though. I do know that one day, we will emerge from our homes and life will resume again. Until then, nothing is as it was and somethings may never go back to normal. But I know we all have the courage within us to face the uncertainty that lies ahead.
The comic book industry has been hit hard by the spread of COVID-19. Many of the major publishers have told their writers and artists to halt all projects they are working on and the printing presses have been shut down. Also, Diamond Distribution, the lone company that ships comics to shops around the country, is out of commission for the foreseeable future. For the first time since the industry began in the 1930’s, no new comic books are being shipped out. Even the major companies like Marvel and DC are at a standstill and there are some who believe this could be the beginning of the collapse of the comics industry.
I personally would hate to see comic books die off. They have been a huge part of my life since I was seven years old. The heroes I was raised on, they taught me to be brave, to be truthful and to never give up. I know we need inspiration like that more than ever now. That is why I am not going down without a fight and I will do everything I can to keep this industry going as long as there is breath in my body.
While other companies are shutting down, Golden Kid Comics has been moving forward. Right now, I and the other Golden Kid Comics creators are still making comic books. We are preparing stories and readying art for upcoming projects right now. I do this because this is what I was born to do. I can’t imagine a life without comics or a life where I don’t get to create them. I imagine my friends, my brothers, who have joined together to make Golden Kid Comics a reality, feel the same way. So, as long as we are able, we will be here with new stories to tell and new adventures to thrill readers of all ages. And we hope our tales will also inspire as well.
In a week where other companies have been stopped in their tracks, Golden Kid Comics is excited to present an all new character, our first truly original superhero: The Black Cricket. The Black Cricket is a creation of mine and Josh Holley and you will get to read the first page of his origin in today’s Sunday Funday Page. I am excited about this character and Josh and I have big plans for him. We will be launching his first issue soon and I know that if you give him a chance, he might just become a favorite character of yours. Along with Black Cricket, we also have the latest installment of Rex Romero and some more jokes from our Manhunter of Mirth, Funnibone.
Golden Kid Comics is also proud to announce The Flame #1 is available right now for digital download from our website, goldenkidcomics.com. This issue features some material that we have showcased in past Sunday Funday Pages, but we also have a brand new story that introduces Golden Kid’s first original villain, the fastest crook alive, Blink. This sinister speedster is set to bedevil The Flame in his second issue and you will not want to miss his big debut. Since we know money is tight for a lot of people right now, we are offering The Flame #1 for just 99 cents. Also, to help you out even further, we have made The Flame #0 available for digital download for free. So, right now you can go to goldenkidcomics.com and get both these books for less than one dollar. We figured that is a bargain worthy of our fans. We do ask that if you like us, please tell your friends about us and share our links. Also, let us know how we’re doing. We’ll take praise readily, but we are open to all feedback that can make us a better company.
We know that the heroes we present in the pages of Golden Kid Comics can not save the world outside our window right now. But we hope they will offer you and your children some much needed diversion. Again, we are here to inspire and to help in the best way we know how: by entertaining you.
Thank you all for being one of our Golden Kids.
