FINAL MISSION! Agents of SHIELD Return to Save the World From Evil and Us From COVID Boredom!
Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD is set to return for their final mission. The return of Agents May, Mack and Yo-Yo couldn’t have come at a better time. On screen, they’re going to rid the world of the Chronicom menace once and for all. But in reality, these savior’s of the MCU are going to save all of us from COVID inspired boredom.
Warning: SPOILERS ahead…
When we last left the remnants of SHIELD, the team had just defeated the menace of Pachakutiq brought about by the alluring alien Izel. The victory was short lived however, as the Chronicoms laid waste to what final vestiges of a base SHIELD had at the Lighthouse.
Realizing that they are under-matched, Fitz and Simmons decide to split the team in two. One team, led by Gemma and Mack will operate sometime in the past, New York City circa 1940 or possibly earlier. Fitz’s team is somewhere else in time and space. But we viewers don’t know his whereabouts just yet.
Adding to the mystery of the final season of Agents of SHIELD is the ultimate fate of Agent May (Ming-Na Wen). In the season 6 finale, the agent had died and then been resurrected again only to be brought back to the brink of mortality once again. Right now May is playing Schrodinger’s cat in a status pod with the NYC team.
Then we’ve got Clark Gregg back as yet another incarnation of Phil Coulson. The MCU’s version of the Council of Wells, Gregg is now assisting Gemma and Mack in the form of an LMD. Appearrantly, this Android isn’t very happy with his return to action.
Fans who have run out of new material to watch on basic along Disney+, Netflix and all the other streaming services during the pandemic will have 13 new episodes to break up that quarantine monotony. It’s rather bittersweet as the past couple of seasons of SHIELD have been really good and yet we have to say goodbye to some really great characters.
Actress Elizabeth Henstridge, who plays Gemma will make her directing debut later this season in one episode. Clark Gregg is slated to helm an episode as well according to his Facebook account. While I am happy that the actors are getting to live out some life long dreams, I really hope we get to see something that all fans have been clamoring for since the show debuted back in 2013: superheroes!
Season 7 was filmed over a year ago and countless Marvel series have been filmed since then. We know that Hayley Atwell’s coming back as Agent Carter. But I want more. Much more!
Could Marvel Studios have pulled an Ezra Miller CRISIS coup and secretly filmed some scenes with some of the powerhouses of the MCU for the series finale? I’m not expecting RDJ or Chris Evans. But wouldn’t it be epic seeing the Falcon and Bucky or Doctor Strange assisting the Agents of SHIELD in their last hurrah?
We’ll just have to wait and see…
The final seventh season of Agents of SHIELD is scheduled to return May 27th on ABC.
