Geisgha Sensation Kaho Shibuya Cosplay Interview Part 2
Kaho Shibuya Cosplay Interview
OG: Hello Outright Geekery fans, on to part two of our interview with Kaho Shibuya. Kaho is a charming and motivated young woman who is a mogul and social media sensation in Japan. Her resume is impressive enough that we had to present her interview as a two-part special. Let us pick up where we left off and continue with our interview with Kaho. If you missed part 1 of this exclusive interview, just click here for a recap.
OG: Kaho, your name is so unique as well as special. For our fans, how did you come up with the name Kaho Shibuya?
Kaho: I’ve been using the same name from my JAV actress days, but I later found out it’s a difficult name to pronounce in English. Maybe a much more simple one and just a first name are better? Yet, when a good number of people remember you by the name “Kaho Shibuya,” you gotta cherish it.
Kaho: The last name Shibuya also helped me come up with a panel idea for conventions; I did a “Kaho’s Shibuya” panel at Animé Los Angeles where I was an invited guest this past January, offering a virtual tour of a popular district in Tokyo, Shibuya, by referencing the anime shows and games like Persona that featured the town.
OG: Just the name, Kaho, sounds so mythical… like an ancient source of magical power if one were to call the name asking for a special wish (Sorry guys, no wishes here).
OG: Have you ever done a Dynamic Duo cosplay with someone of your caliber?
Kaho: The only duo cosplay shoots I’ve done so far are Pop Team Epic as Popico and Pipimi and Re: Zero as Rem and Ram with my freelance friend whom I worked with at a number of events in Japan. However, working with your friends has its downsides too. For example, they can get lazy, and then I feel the need to take control of the whole thing rather than both of us helping each other. I’d like to work with people who have the fashion sense and a deep understanding of cosplay shoots.
OG: That must really place you in a difficult situation there.
OG: With great work comes with a great paycheck. Does Kaho profit from doing what she’s passionate about her artistry?
Kaho: I’m doing what I love and I keep kicking off new projects, which means it’s going well, right? Starting things on your own always requires seed money, so profits are indeed important to build your funds. However, I never focus on my work solely to make a profit, because I believe it’s something that happens after a long time, not right away.
OG: What sort of advice can you bestow to others to succeed as a social media entertainer as well as a cosplayer?
Kaho: Social media is all about trial and error; rules change and differ on every platform, so you need to use them frequently and find out more about them. I’m using Twitter, Instagram and now Twitch, each having its own merits and specialties.
Kaho: Don’t forget to add your own spice to the cosplay. Your job is not just to bring the character to life or 3D, but to express your personality and ideas as well, so how you pose and how you play with an outfit plus props are crucial as much as your facial expression.
OG: Always in the public eye, Kaho’s image is constantly looked at. What do you do to keep yourself physically fit and tone?
Kaho: Whilst sitting and typing on my laptop, I try to use EMS pads to keep my body muscle moving. But other than that, I eat whatever I like to keep my mind healthy! But you’re right, bodies in shape are better for cosplay. There is a costume that I’d like to wear when I get nice abs.
OG: Though we have never met, I love your smile, but what do people notice about you when they meet you for the first time?
Kaho: They always tell me I’m smaller in person, not the chest part but height-wise, hehe.
OG: That’s Just Crazy Talk there!
OG: What’s been Kaho’s best experience with fans you meet at conventions?
Kaho: I love that a large number of people enjoy dressing up at anime conventions! They’re all really unique; I met a guy who was wearing a body-size trash bin and pasted pictures of female characters with a label saying, “Your Waifu is Trash.”
OG: How do your fans, who watched your career grow, treat you in public? Do you have more male or female fans?
Kaho: They are very respectful and supportive, disregarding internet trolls, of course, whom you can’t really classify as fans. I think from my past as a JAV actress I naturally have more male fans, so meeting female fans is always exhilarating!
OG: Is having a relationship with someone difficult to have?
Kaho: Japanese talents rarely share their relationship status with the public to begin with, so being a cosplayer doesn’t change that much. But if you’re more known from cosplay photos, maybe they won’t recognize you in public?
OG: What makes Kaho happy in Life?
Kaho: Fulfilling my curiosity by experiencing different things and learning new skills, growing like a protagonist in shonen manga.
OG: Does your popularity sometimes make Kaho’s life a burden when people notice you?
Kaho: Actually, I’m not easily recognized in public because I’m usually wearing a big hoodie that covers my physical features, haha. Although, I do appreciate that I can be spotted at some events even when I just attend as a fan, not an invited guest. There was one time that I was recognized by a tourist from Hong Kong at a Shonen Jump Exhibit and we had a 2-shot in front of a huge Jump magazine monument. That was cool.
OG: What sort of fun-filled adventures or projects can we expect to see from Kaho this year?
Kaho: I’m releasing a new book, songs, and original T-shirts. Besides that, I’ll start working as a voice actress and anison DJ. I guess that’s more than enough for me to handle. As far as my guest appearance at conventions, I cannot announce my future plans because of the pandemic. Please follow me on social media to get updates about any future appearances.
OG: Can you tell our readers what sort of amazing cosplay wear you’re making?
Kaho: I have many characters on my mind and in my closet already! But… no spoilers♥
OG: Oh come on!
OG: Oh, the game is not over Kaho Shibuya. Prepare yourself as Outright Geekery will now unleash its biggest weapon yet! It is time to ask Kaho our,
“So-Far Outright Just-Geeky questions!”
OG: Right now, what is something you did as a child, you kept secret and are willing to confess with Outrightgeekery?
Kaho: While playing Sailor Moon R action game on Super Nintendo, I found up-skirt moments and paused many times.
OG: What are some unusual things to buy at a vending machine in Japan?
Kaho: Miso soup and even rarer, pork miso soup!!
OG: Are Cuddle Cafes really clean to visit?
Kaho: I’ve only been to one kitty cafe, and had to take off fluffy furs from my sweater at home. My advice is to be mindful of your clothes.
OG: What is Kaho Shibuya’s favorite food from Japan, from the United States, And any country you want to tell?
Kaho: From Japan, umeboshi and seaweed… oh, how Japanese I am, hehe. In the U.S., nothing can beat a juicy burger and golden fries. Thai food is also my favorite of all cuisines.
OG: If you were granted a Super-Power, what superpower would Kaho Shibuya have to make this world a better place to live?
Kaho: I’d like to be transparent, but I don’t know how I could utilize that ability to save the world?
OG: What can Kaho Shibuya do to save an alarming number of Hikikomori from their inner prison?
Kaho: Anime conventions where I’m a guest, baby! Come to my booth and you won’t regret it.
OG: Why do the Japanese people love cute and cuddly things?
Kaho: Wait, don’t we all?
OG: Is Godzilla someone you can rely on during a World-Wide Pandemic by stepping on it?
Kaho: He’s too destructive… I hope he won’t step on my house!
OG: Which spa at Yunessan spa did Kaho Shibuya absolutely love to visit?
Kaho: The smell of the coffee spa at Yunessan was the most relaxing, though I don’t drink coffee.
OG: What is the deal with Cubed Watermelons?
Kaho: Never tasted it before, but I love the look! It reminds me of a puzzle game.
OG: Would you ever do a Tanning booth session?
Kaho: I don’t wanna get in there… Your skin will burn…
OG: If Kaho Shibuya woke up the next morning and discovered you were a man, what would be the first thing you do as a man?
Kaho: I’d go pee to see how it works, probably ending up with a messy bathroom stall!
OG: If you could go back into time and change anything in History, what would that be?
Kaho: I would like to go back to the Sengoku era and meet Nobunaga, the most famous and notorious historical character in the 2D world as well. But I probably wouldn’t change his death, for it was quite dramatic.
OG: This question seems to offer various responses, Can I get a Hug?
Kaho: You get a virtual hug♡ Stay safe and well until this coronavirus fiasco goes away.
OG: Thank you Kaho for allowing us to do this two-part interview with you. We, at Outright Geekery, want to thank you and wish you success in all of your endeavors. If we can ask one more question: where can our readers get more of Kaho Shibuya?
Kaho: Thank you Outright Geekery for giving me the opportunity for this interview. Here are my personal websites for your readers to become a fan of mine:
