We’ve all told various stories around the campfire, of course, and the later it gets the more horrific the stories tend to become. Now just imagine that it’s post-apocalyptic earth in the far future, (like 2021…just kidding) the very far off future. There are now aliens and mutants among us, and parts of the planet are an abandoned wasteland. This is where this particular campfire tale takes place, and not too far into this book we encounter a group of young kids – alien and mutant alike – taking refuge in an abandoned sector, mostly left alone by the particular legend of a creature known as the Loggerhead: a creature with a voracious appetite and an unforgiving nature. What exactly do I mean by this? For that, you’ll have to buy the book and read it for yourself.
Bryan Silverbax did this book nearly solo. I guess if you want something done right do it yourself. If you know anything about Bryan that’s him to a T. He’s an artist, actor, podcaster, and now, of course, a writer. I will give him this much, he nailed this tale big time. It reads much shorter than it is in page count. It moves along at let me say a brisk pace, but isn’t rushed. It holds up very well for the one-shot horror story it is. Although I’d be glad to read more of this or, at the very least, see Loggerhead appear in future books.
If you’ve ever enjoyed books like Swamp Thing or Man-Thing you’ll highly enjoy this book and where it can take you. The cover itself gives away what’s about to go down, along with a few surprises. This a refreshingly straight forward monster book that will whet your appetite for more. So run out right now to get Loggerhead before he gets you!
