Oh, hey, Mom. I just read another comic from a company that has some of the best writing in the business: AWA. They’re hot, they’re hip, they’re happening. Not bad at all for a brand spanking new company. The comic book I just finished reading was Archangel 8 #3. No, I don’t think he’s from St. Louis. Why would you ask that? That’s not what the “arch” in his name stands for. And it’s pronounced “arc,” not “arch.” No, Mom, I haven’t seen him eat at a McDonald’s yet either. Geesh! Sorry about that, OG peeps. Now, let’s get to this week’s Dandy Don the Valiant’s weekly review.
Artists, Writers, & Artisans, Inc. (AWA Studios) is a brand spanking new comic book company that has only released comic books for about four months now. In that short amount of time, they have released some the most entertaining, thought provoking, and action packed stories in the comic book industry today. They keep the hits coming with Archangel 8 #3 by writer Michael Moreci. He continues to write a heavenly story that raises a lot of hell.
I will stress once again for anyone who is looking to read about angels you learned about in Sunday School class, you will be shockingly surprised. These angels are gritty, foul-mouthed, and ready to shed some blood. But are these angels really carrying out the work of God here or are they rogue angels carrying out their own brand of justice? The angel Raziel has been given an order by another angel named Gabriel (issue #1) to seek out a target and dispose of him. The target stays at least one step ahead of him at every turn. Raziel runs into the angel, Michael, (issue #2), and they have an interesting conversation about choices. Raziel takes off and finds out in this issue that Michael may be toying with him. Raziel is struggling to find out the real truth and hunts down Michael’s partner in crime, Dee, to try and find out some answers. (And, man, what a murderous scene Dee had before being captured by Raziel. What a bloody mess!). Did Raziel find out any answers? Will he side with the bad guys in order to chase down some rogue angels? Will he continue to take orders from Gabriel or turn the tables? Is Michael an ally or an enemy? You’ll have to call your LCS and add this issue, as well as the five issue mini-series, to your pull list. You don’t want to miss it!
Writer Michael Moreci has laid out another intriguing and well thought out story line with this issue. This mini-series is hitting its stride and is rounding the corner for an explosive ending that will rock both Heaven and Hell. With the combination of C.P. Smith’s gritty art style and Snakebite Cortez’s (still one of the coolest name in comics) striking colors, this series should be a chart topper every single week. Archangel 8 is soaring high!
Yes, Mom, I understand that Archway cookies may taste heavenly, but they were NOT created by Archangel 8. No, they weren’t! Oh, boy.
